Here are photo's of 34" 5's. I had customers comment that the pickguard on the 34" 5's was a little smaller than my 35" counterpart and the control plate doesn't follow the edge of the body like the 35" J5.

Here is a CAD image of my newly designed 34" VTJ5. Pickguard and control plate layout are now identical to the 35" 5's.

3. I have slightly changed the VMJ4/VMJ5 & SMJ4/SMJ5. This is my 21 fret Modern body style (downsized). I have made the treble cutaway a little deeper for easier access to the 21st fret. This is will be standard on the on this Model. The older shallower cutaway will be available as an option.

4. New Nut and Heel widths. A 3" 5 string neck heel will be standard for 19mm bridges. A 2-7/8" 5 string neck heel will be standard for 18mm bridges. 1 3/4" nut width is now available on all 5 string.

5. 24 fret basses are available.

I know - I hate it when I make a totally awesome, profound post and then come back to find that it was the last one on the page. Happens all the time. :hmm:

Nino, do you have any flexibility on routing locations for the pickups, or do your customers need to choose from the available routing options? For example, if I were ever to want to spec a bass with a MM pickup in precisely the same spot relative to the bridge as it is on a Stingray, could you do that?

Lemme give a little insite to the positioning on the MM.

That Nordy pick-up has a seriously STRONG MM voice.
To the point that even when blended center between the pick-ups, it still sounds like a MM.
You almost CAN'T get it to not sound like that really. But I like it so it's a non-issue to me.

To it's advantage, it's pure 100% MM. I've put it against quite a number of SR5's and it's the real deal.
With the front pick-up it fattens up the over-all sound, but like I said, still retains that MM sound.

I love the Sadowsky pre-amp with this combo. I feel it really gets the old school classic MM vibe down flat.

With the MM pick-up in single coil mode and blended with the front p/up, it doesn't do the "Jazz" sound in a classic sense. Still a very aggressive sound.
This bass has some serious teeth.

I'm gonna post some stuff up of it next week. I think I have some bugs worked out of my laptop to be able to do a video.

Not a pure MM, nor PBass, but something I should share about #067. I had replaced the NJ5s with AeroT1. Like Aero said, it did bring out the natural sound of the bass, and added some fundamental to it. Then I added an Audere to try and make 067 more than just a J bass. The Audere worked OK with the Aeros, and even David@ Audere said it might have difficulty "working" the Aeros as they are strong voiced pups.

Checked in a live setting. ( Which I've come to find is the "final arbiter" of whether it sits in the mix well, and whether the bass' voice works for me, i.e, the Sadowsky survived one band rehersal and out the door it went). It wasnt doing it.

So this past weekend, no gigs, no football, I swapped in the NJ5's again. HOLY SMOKES> it lit that thing up!

Now, Chef indicates he finds the Audere "unnatural" and maybe it is. I appreciate his opinions to be sure. But pickup choice IS critical. ( as is dialing the low Z mode)

Last night ol #067 pulsed as a Pbass in "Folsom Prison" ( yeah, even a classic original rock band does choice covers!), and a few songs later the singer decides it's "Promises in the Dark" for our next cover, so I switch a few things quick, grab a pick and mimic Chris Squire. The guitarist was like, "Man, I never heard the Valenti do THAT before!".

And does it EVER hit the "modern gospel" tone. WOW!

And here I was thinking of selling the Valenti to fund a new racing transmission for a toy. Nope.

The Nordy/Audere setup is very, very nice. These are straight NJ5's, no hum cancel, no nothing.

Damn that bass is easy to play for 3 hours straight. Blew the Sad away in that regard. These basses are PLAYERS!

From a half-arsed amature, so YMMV.

I'd hate to have to sell 067 for a 24 fret neck version! SWEET NINO!!!! GAS GAS GAS!!!!!!!!

Trust your ears!

I still totally dig my Valenti and will put it next to...whomever's boutique JJ, no qualms.

SWEET! You and Munja with the pink basses! Hey, we all die naked and broke, so broke will eventully be permanent anyway. Have fun!

I do trust my ears Chef, and I do hear what you say. My other 5 is an ash maple vintage J5 and I wouldn't touch its natural voice with any preamp. But in the mix, the Valenti sits about anywhere you want it, and any 'unnaturalness' is cloaked by the mix. ( I'm usually playing against two Vox amps - who is unatural!?)

I have to admit, I truly dig the "P style" setting. Big phat and throaty with shimmer. #067 is routed for a P/rev P. But she's fine right where she is.

To the last post, what simple rig do y'all use to record the bass to your PC? I dont want to record garbage to show off a super neat pallette; it wouldn't do the bass, nor its builder, justice.
