Sadowsky soapbars? Nordstrand Big Splits or Big Singles?
Was leaning hard towards BIG Singles or Splits but decided on Dual Coils.
So did this replace the Carvin?

I'm a Big Single 'Fan' and could not be happier. To me they are the best of fuller sounding humbucker in that throaty single coil growl.
I still have 1 SB5000 that does my 70's j thing.
However the VTP5 #110 has a unique pickup spacing (its not a Sad modern spacing) but in fact has the neck pickup pulled back a bit. The growl is just unreal...

Its using Nordy 3 band...Very subtle (which I love) not a fan of the aggie or Sadowsky...
But dig the Audere and Nordy.
The Nordy is a little more open (so to speak) this one has the push pull option as well.
Good to know! I'm not a fan of the Aguilar or Sadowsky either, but dig the Audere....so I'm guessing the Nordstrand pre is up my alley too.

Audere: never was a fan. Been long enough I couldn't tell you why, but it was a fail for me both times I had one.
Aguilar: all boom and glass; yuck.
Sadowky: win for me, but, it's definitely "a more modern flavor," and not "fender-y/passive-y or organic."
Nord: very natural sounding, and a complete win with Nord pickups.

Like Alan said the Big Singles and this pre is a win.
I honestly thought I would use just the Audere for any 2 pickup instruments, until this pre.
I love the Nordy preamp, also. My Callowhill has one of the very first ones. I love the ability to have a tone control in passive and active.
My Valenti is passive. With that being said my favorite preamps that I have tried have been:
Nordstrand 2 band
Carvin 2 band
Sadowsky 2 band (Modern but very usable)
I haven't cared for Aguilar honestly and I haven't tried the Audere. I have noticed that I tend to prefer 2 band or 4 band unless the mid frequency can be switched on a 3 band.

So I let someone sit in Saturday night and play my Valenti 5 string.....after which, he hands it back to me and says "it plays nice, but I like jazz basses". He then informed me that he played a 5 string Fender jazz bass. My Valenti is 35 inch scale loaded with big singles.....I always THOUGHT of it as a jazz bass.....I guess maybe the 35 inch scale could throw some guys off.....I still have to chuckle when people look at any jazz style bass that doesn't say Fender and then proudly proclaim " I play a Fender". I was nice though and just said "Fenders are nice basses man"......rant over
Did you pick this up at Bass Specialties in Philly? I think that's the one I saw there.
I met Nino there a few weeks back when he was dropping this spalted flame maple/Sadowsky loaded beauty off with Glenn - Link Removed . A few really nice Valentis have been through Glenn's shop.

It was there before but I actually picked this up from Nino after He brought this bass to the NE GTG.
Invalid Link Removed I gig with this guy quite a bit and tracked all the tunes on this page with my Valenti basses.

Build level is top shelf.
It weighs 7.5lbs; so it's the lightest bass I've ever owned, probably!
It's ash, maple, Nord single coils, Sadowsky preamp with vintage tone.
Compared to my Sadowsky MV5JJ of similar spec, it's a little less mid forward, with a little more native low end, and more extended treble response (which the VTC calms quite nicely if you want it to).
Compared to my Valenti #46 JJ, the neck is a bit wider, and, a bit shallower, which I find super comfortable. The body is more contoured around all it's edges, which is also nice.
