Okay...I'm back I'm the Valenti Bass club! Regretfully sold both #119 and #83 before...just picked up #120 from AJ...I should get it tomorrow!

Put a custom set of GHS Progressives on the Valenti and got it dialed in last night. Amazing how much the right set of strings can do for a bass. #154 has always had a good sound but these strings really bring out the best in it. Went with .45 .65 .85 .106sh .136sh.

Also, I love soloing the neck pickup in series. Such a meaty P-ish tone.

So true! I've had my Valenti for 6 months now and I've tried 6 different sets of strings:

DR Lo Riders (45-125)
DR Nickel Lo Riders (50-130)
DR Hi Beams (45-125)
GHS Pressurewounds (45-125)
LaBella Flatwounds (52-130)
Sadowsky Blue Label Nickels (45-130)

They were all a bit different, they all sounded good. I use them on other basses but still something was missing. Finally I had a 4 string set of Rotosounds stainless steel swing bass that still had a bit of life to them. I tried them and that's the sound I was looking for!
I replaced the G string with GHS Brite Flat .52 and the B string is a DR .130 and now I have the perfect set for my Valenti

I admit that it's weird but the main reason I have a flatwound on the G string is that I've always loved the sound of the D and G strings on a short scale bass. It's tubbier sounding. Especially on a modern sounding, 35" scale bass, the G can be a big "pingy" sounding so the flat tames it a bit. Meanwhile, I still get the growl from the lower strings.

Since Jason at bassstringsonline.com offers singles and custom sets, All at great prices, I figured I'd try some experimenting. This works for me. :)

Chef, my first bass was a 5er and I have always felt comfortable on a 5 but I've never found a B string that just wowed me. As soon as I put this .136 on and tuned it up, I knew I had found what I was missing tension and tone wise.

And yes, I believe they are an alloy 52 variant.

Interesting...

I was considering using a stainless B with a nickel set before going eith progressives.

I have used:
Sadowsky Blue Label Nickels
D'Addario XLs
DR Low Riders
D'Addario Chromes
DR Sunbeams
GHS Boomers

Loved the sunbeams tone but the tension didn't work out for me.the Boomers had a great feel/tone but I wanted to go big on the B and needed a taper.
