I stand corrected , the strings on this bass are DR High Beams.

More importantly, I've been rehearsing with my #065 and this mofo has the best B string I've played in a long, long time. The sustain and depth of the tone, even the low c, is pretty fantastic. A lot of fivers I've had required me to pay extra attention to how I was hitting the notes with my left hand or I'd end up sliding off the fretboard. I'm noticing that I'm not needing to worry about that with this bass. That's huge, just by itself.

I recently picked up #183 to have a 5 string for a country band I joined. Absolutely a phenomenal sounding and playing instrument - loving the neck profile and tone from the big singles (will have big splits once I get one of the pickups back from Nordstrand). Hard to believe the sound I'm getting from a passive bass!

Here it is resting up before a show (don't worry - I usually use use a stand)

Can you describe the difference? I have nordy pj nj4sv with a sadowsky pre and am curious about the Aguilars.

Nordstrands are excellent pickups and from what I can sense from Carey's interviews, he's a great guy. So I do not want to bash Nordstrand in any way. However, for me, the Nordstrand pickups were not satisfying me tone-wise. The bridge pickup was a bit nasally and the front P pickup was more modern sounding than vintage. I also missed having a 5 string J bass and the PJ setup wasn't working for me so maybe it's an unfair comparison. I had listened to a number of sound samples and after conferring with Nino, we decided to go with Aguilar. Since then, I've never been so happy and all the musicians and sound people I work with always compliment my sound. If you truly want a vintage Fender sound, IMHO, these are the pickups to go with.

I've got them on another bass (maybe you know!) and they're working fine. They feel almost as good as the USA ones on my Valenti bass. There are some people discussing it recently on the Sadowsky mega thread. The general consensus there is that the US ones are a definite upgrade but in my experience so far, I feel that the difference is slight.

P. S. I like that holder for the Allen key. Very smart! Is it the bridge's key?

It's now 4 years that I've had my Valenti bass. By far, the best I've ever owned.
In addition to putting the w/b/w pickguard back on, I just gave it new strings, set up and a New Year's cleaning.

That white pin (well, it's bigger than a pin I suppose) stripe is very classy. The Jazzes in this thread are really some of the nicest I've ever seen. :thumbsup:
