The Video Game Thread

I jumped back into another play through of Skyrim since the Anniversary version came out the other day. Been having fun. Even though I logged a little over 1000 hours on my main character on Xbox 360, it’s still just as fun to play again. And now with all the mods, it’s truly beautiful.

It sucks having to wait another year for Starfield.

Currently immersed in New World, a newly-launched MMO from Amazon.
They've had a rocky start, not helped by what appears to be orchestrated negative reviews and admittedly some technical issues.
They've also had to shut down facets of the game a couple of times to deal with exploits by players.
It's a well-crafted world, which could do with some more variety in quests and enemies, and some decent lore, but it's early days and I'm hopeful there'll be improvement.

I'll admit I'm playing this solo, and have little interest in the PVP aspects, happily exploring, hunting, fishing and so on. For my purposes this is a fine game, and if given a chance, will only get better.
But, my god, visiting the games forums is an exercise in toxicity, entitlement and general hostility...so I don't go there.
Beware.

Never owned a console and rarely played video games. I was an arcade game addict as a kid, though. I liked the driving games the most.

Until this past summer - I bought a PS4 for something to do while recovering from chemo treatments. Wanted a PS5 but they’re next to impossible to get around here at the moment. Got a racing game and a golf game. Got pretty good at those. Then a buddy convinced me to give CoD a try. He’s been a long time player and it was a novelty to me to play in duo team mode. Kinda like hanging out and talking crap with your buddy. I’m at the point where I’ve developed some skills and find myself playing on the odd nights he might be online. It’s been fun. We mostly play in Warzone - Battle Royale and Plunder. I’m at the point where I’m counting down the days until the new Vanguard Warzone map comes out. Verdansk has been kind of quiet since main Vanguard release a few weeks back.

I’ll admit, it’s gotten in the way of my guitar/bass playing. Now that the days are shorter and colder, I’m spending less time outside and gravitate towards my studio earlier in the day then during summer.

I started slowly trickling in some time for video games again now that my 26" Panasonic CRT moved to it's permanent place in my closet with organizers around it to house the consoles. Can't find my Radio Shack S-video switcher so I'm making due with composite which is an eyesore after using S-video for so long.

I've been chilling with the Gamecube and Super Mario Sunshine lately but also playing more of my Sega Saturn library which I learned right away doesn't pull any punches when you're rusty so I've been doing the Saturn in short bursts. No Dreamcast yet because I only have S-video connections for the console and I've yet to have the hankering for the SNES and Genesis (mostly caused by me owning Sonic Jam and Thunder Force Gold Pack II on the Saturn) but that might come in due time.

I really need to start looking around for places that do console repairs because I have a very nice looking crystal clear Original Xbox that began having laser issues after one incident with a disc I bought that got buffed when the local game shop's machine was acting a bit funny.

Playing video games is one of my favourite hobbies, and thought it’d be fun to have a video game thread here.

Feel free to share what games you’re playing, what games you’re looking forward to, your favourite games/characters, or anything else (discussing eSports tournaments, platforms/hardware, etc).

I haven't really played new games recently. I replayed the Horizon series, The Last of Us series, and Bioshock Infinite. I have PS+ Premium so I've been going through and playing through older games.

I play MLB The Show a lot too.

...The Last of Us series, and Bioshock Infinite.
Really liked both of those series. My wife doesn't play video games at all, rarely watches me play. But she enjoyed watching and helping me play both of those. Sometimes there were marathons until the next morning. It was kinda frowned upon if I played and she wasn't around LOL.

The only other three I can think of her watching was the first Dead Island, the first few Fatal Frames, and first few Silent Hills.

Funny this popped up.
All I do is work - Bass - Game.
Great to combine two, while posting at the third.

I play Star Citizen a lot - I know its got bugs and issues and people say its a cash grab scam but I love it.

Want to get Diablo 4 but cant justify the cost (As I buy 3 new pedals)

I'm a big fan of Overwatch but I think they're ruining it in OW2

I play death metal mostly.

I'm an on-and-off gamer. I went from the Commodore 64 to the original Xbox. :D I played my Xbox and Xbox 360 pretty thoroughly, but haven't followed up with any of the consoles since then.

My favorite games of all time are easily the original Mass Effect trilogy, especially ME2. Bioshock and Dead Space also have a special place in my heart.

I suspect I'm going to be a non-gamer for the foreseeable future, but I equally suspect that I'll find my way back at some point ...

Anyone else playing Tears of the Kingdom? I've been neglecting bass in favor of playing it, but it's just too much fun.

Yup....4 sages in, ~90 shrines, and coming towards the final few quests of the game.

Definitely a big improvement over BotW (hard to go back, for me), I am looking forward to moving on after beating it though. The puzzles and builds are great, but I'm getting burnout on open world games in general right now. Gonna look for a solid turn-based RPG to play next.

Back when I had a boyfriend, he got me into Star Citizen.

Years later, I'm almost 30, married to someone else. We used to run with an org, had training sessions and I even had a double stick setup for it. I was going to be one of the medics running an ambulance in the Cutlass Red.

Long story short, I don't have the sticks anymore. Nor a computer that can run Star Citizen. What a disappointment in many ways. Glad I only spent little money on it - had an Aurora and then upped it to... Something. One of the other starters.
Oh well.

Diablo I don't care about, neither Overwatch.

I did just Install World of Warcraft - going to play together with my partner as Horde on the EU Sylvanas server. We are migrating over from playing Guild Wars 2 for years because my current computer can't really run it (got a Mac for video editing etc and GW2 doesn't have a native Mac client and the Wine one runs like crap now, unplayable).

Wow, I am a nerd.
