The Video Game Thread

I’ve been wanting to check out Baldur’s Gate but only have an Xbox. Almost bought a steam deck on sale but picked up some new tuners and strings instead.

Started playing No Man’s Sky with my son since we have Game Pass. Will probably check out Starfield.

Steam Deck is great. Playing Bioshock Remastered, Alan Wake. Runs both great on stable 60 fps but I limit it to 40 fps and 40Hz to limit battery consumption. Lasts about 4 or 5 hours on a full charge that way.

The NVME replacement was kinda tough because taking off the plastic back was difficult, but it went well. I installed Cryoutilities, Decky Loader, CSS Themes, upped the VRAM usage to 4GB from 1GB and threw in some proton upgrades and other plugins.

Fantastic so far.

I've been doing the old favorites that never leave my desktop.

Fallout 4 HEAVILY modded.
No Man's Sky ( It delivers what Starfield is falling short of. Namely unique planets in unique systems, procedural generated and with diverse bio ( and non bio ) life forms. I have a system that has four Paradise planets and one frozen planet that is pretty cool too. Each is named after my kids, my wife and I. Until the game servers come down, it's kinda neat to know someone can happen into the system Carol's Nest and explore us.
Minecraft HEAVILY modded.
Cyberpunk 2077 ( yes it had a rough start. EQUALLY yes, it's redeemed itself wonderfully. ) One of my favorites in a good, long while.

Just recently I've gotten back into The Hunter: Call of the Wild. It's beautiful and requires tactics over run and gun. A nice break from my old fave genre FPS. It's made for an old fart like me :D

My oldest go to's (sic) are Master of Orion 2, Heroes of Might and Magic III a lovely port of a C64 classic Sword of Fargoal. The first Ultima I played on a Trash 80 so many years ago.

I have, and have played ( tried to... ) Diablo IV - I want my damn money back . . . it was the worst I've played in a while. Until I bought Madden '24. I'd say it's a hot mess but it's too lazy to heat up. It's just a cold turd.

Lastly a fun sim in early access I've been digging is Automation. It's a car company tycoon game where you develop your own cars and engines. You can even port them to BeamNG and drive them. Cool stuff!

LOVE watching dumb BeamNG content on YouTube.

Well.

Took me literally years and multiple tries but I finally beat Bioshock. I would always get bored of it and uninstall, but having the Steam Deck and being able to play whenever I feel like has been a blessing in this regard.

Cool :)

I added about 60 games to my wishlist as well... But at least I am working thru my backlog of games!

Finished the first one in a week and enjoyed it. Tried to play 2 and got bored after a few hours. Finished Infinite in a few days. Immediately started another play though. Finished that in a week and sold the game lol. Enjoyable, but not a ton of replay value. (For me). Although, I’ve played through Portal and Portal 2 a couple dozen times. Go figure.

REALLY got into my stride in Starfield over the last few days. After 40 ish hours, this game is EXACTLY the game I was always hoping it would be. Though I would be happy with ground based vehicles.

I was thinking of playing Bioshock 2 next but I've just spent 20 hours in Rapture, I'm over it for now.

Another game I bounced off before is Alan Wake - this time, I'm stickning with it. It plays so well on the Steam Deck. So good :)

I am waiting for the next sale, which is in about 2 months. The Autumn Steam sale. I want to buy a "few" games.

I was thinking about pre-ordering phantom liberty after work today and starting a new character. Anything in particular you enjoy about the revamp?

Need a break from starfield after 130 some odd hours lol
I’m stuck at “all that money can buy”. I keep tryin to talk to everybody that has a briefcase for like 10 minutes and no one responds lol.

It's alright. The changes are good. Should have been in the game at the start, as they advertised... :)

I don't fault them for that too much. In truth I picked up the game after it was in a playable state a bit over a year ago. Loved it from jump street. All the fixes and the new changes were done at no cost to the player, which is damn rare. Even more rare is when they listen to player feedback and implement changes based on that info. Again, mighty rare.

@RoadieP The new cyberware system is fantastic. It's going to take me a while to really dig in ( I'm a notorious min/max fiend ) but it makes much more sense to me. Also the garments are just that now, which is good, and kinda bad, I sorta liked the John Wick-ish armored suit vibe ) The visuals are noticeably better, even on my ancient home built rig. I can only imagine what a decent vid card looks like on this. The cops are pretty cool now. There are beat cops wandering around so no more POOF! Insta drone when you cross the line. Also, I pushed them a bit to see what they do.... when you hit lvl 5 Max Tac show up. They are no joke :D One oddity, for me at least. It feels like they slowed down the walk speed. I swear I feel like a turtle with a peg leg now.

The driving is changed. it's not better. It still feels like you're sitting on a compass rose and spinning on axis when you steer. I sorely wish someone on their dev team would become buds with someone on the GTA V dev team. The driving aspect of Cyberpunk 2077 is still a huge miss for me. It's a shame too.
