I'm back to the Champagne of Bottles Beers.
I'm tired of spending $10+ on a 6 pack of yuppie beer, although they *do* taste good!
If I want a real treat and I'm up in Seattle, I go to the Sunset Tavern in Ballard and get me a NightWatchman Porter! YUM!

BTW, does any micro basher know about beeronomics? I've NEVER paied $10 for a 6 pack, not sure what your problem is.
It all depends on where you're at and what you like. The Wild Blue I got tonight cost me $9 after tax but I could've gotten a 12 pack of Molsen XXX for $11. Both will tear you up but Wild Blue tastes better doing it.
I don't mind Heinekin. Definitely get in the mood for it every few weeks. I've been trying to acquire a taste for High Life, but I just can't do it. It would definitely save some money when picking up beer to hang out with the buddies.
As for the costs, a $10 6er is not something I'm going to sit back with my buddies on a weekend and knock out, but it's not bad if it's something you're gonna have with a few dinners. I think my absolute favorite beer at the moment is Golden Draak from Belgium. Best price I can find around here is $18 for a 4-pack. It's not a weekly buy, but I don't mind spending that for it every now and then. I fill growlers (64 oz) for usually abt $12 each. More cost for fewer ounces than a 6er, but some beers' taste just gets killed when bottled, and you need it from draft to make it enjoyable.
That said, I picked up a 6er of the following tonight for $10:
Back Forty Beer Co. Truck Stop Honey brewed for them by Lazy Magnolia (even had the LM logo on the caps covered by stickers). If you're familiar with Lazy Magnolia, this really reminds me of their Southern Pecan. It's a sweeter smell and taste, but still a strong reminder. While I love Southern Pecan, I don't know that this one is really doing anything for me. The flavor isn't bad, but seems to be missing a certain something. I think I was hoping for more of a honey flavor like an OBP or OBP2.

+1 On the Sam Smiths, I have to go 25 miles to get that one, brewed in slate squares I believe, it certainly is worth the drive, one of my favourite breweries ; )
I didn't say there aren't $10 six packs in my area, just that I've never paid $10. If you know your beers and look at what's on sale, it's not that hard. Last weekend I was looking for an Oktoberfest. While my #1 choice was about $9, Boulevard's Oktoberfest was on sale for $6.99.
Here on the southern Oregon coast a 6 pack of Widmere, Sierra, Full Sail, etc go for about $9.+
Not bashing finer beverages, like I said they taste great - just not willing to pay that price for beer on a regular basis. I will choose a finer beer if out to dinner - like a Black Butte or an Alaskan Amber.
I have no problems, only solutions. Not even a problem with an arrogant guy hiding behind his lil' monitor screen. Enjoy your life, smiley!
If knowing how to shop for good beer at a reasonable price makes me a snob or arrogant, I can live with that. Knowing where to shop, how to shop, and the different beers on the market saves me $. My usual bar also has specials on certain nights, which I also work to my advantage. Boulevard is on sale one night, New Belgium is on sale another night, local stuff on another night.
I think there are a handful of companies that make gluten free beer.
Perhaps talk with come celiac groups and maybe investigate home brewing. I think yeast and hops are naturally gluten free, but probably not tested officially. I'd think something like Red Bridge with more malt and a lot more hops would be a lot closer to grain based beer.
I wasn't saying that either. I was just saying that, depending on the area you live in, some beer is cheaper and harder to find than others. I'm also for finding a great deal on good beer, however, good beer isn't cheap around these parts. Every once in a while I'll see something $1 off it's usual price but, IMO, $1 isn't enough for me to compromise getting what's on sale vs. what I'd rather have.
Geography will dictate some, but I'll admit a city that enjoys micros will help immensely. We may never really make a huge impact, but we're not going away or shrinking.
Regardless, a nice grocery store with a good beer selection can go a long way. Good liquor stores are usually a tad more expensive, but still somewhat competitive. My closest grocery store has a modest selection, but more than just US Domestics. At any given time, something is bound to be on sale. Same goes with most liquor shops with a big selection. This morning while I was running errands, I spotted that Leinies were on sale for 6.09. Had I not stocked up on $7 Boulevard beers last week, I might have snagged one or two.
And 6.99 comes out to something near $8 after tax & CRV. The $7.99 6pack of Red Trolley I bought yesterday cost me $9.10.
Yikes. Y'all are convincing me to never move. No CRV here and only a 6.5% sales tax.
LA counties sales tax has increased from 8.25% to 9.75% practically 10cents for every dollar spent. CRV is something like 5cents per bottle that we get back, if we recycle.
Dang. You'd think under those conditions that most people would become homebrewers!
Nope, theres a reason Californians are pushing for legalized recreational pot... and why its such a huge industry here.
