I've also heard it nicknamed a pint of 'what the **** are you looking at' now and again too.

Tonight, a couple of cans of basic Draught Guinness, I've been flu'd up for the last 10 days, I need some medicine.

Bitterness, or "hoppines" as some of us call it, is usually an acquired taste that comes from drinking a lot of different types of ales. I like hoppy beers but that's just what I like. Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard Ale are some of my faves. It's not for everyone, as it states on the bottle if you read the back. It's only for us "arrogant bastards". :D

In fact, I'm drinking a 22 oz. bottle of Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale right now along with a 6 pack of Breckenridge 471 Small Batch IPA. I don't know why I like such hoppy beers but I do.

I'm with you....The hoppier the better. Most people that taste the kind of beers I like get a funny look on their face & ask me if I'm kidding. That leaves more for you & me! Try a 22 0z. Lagunitas Hop Stoopid if you haven't yet. MMMM!:cool:

Anyway, I guess that, since they use the same vats, the beer tastes different than the beer brewed at the Cincinnati brewery, in a bad way according to his opinion. My guess is that there are similar situations going on there as well.

Having a Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA.
It's good for a commercially available IPA. Not a slouch at all. Nice hoppy, bitterness. It's got a very slight hint of earthiness aftertaste. Not bad dirt...good clean, sweet dirt, although there is no sweetness to the beer. This could actually make it's way into my baseline of beer. Full Sail and Sierra Nevada being the lowest quality in flavor I will go.(and that aint to bad....) It's the kind of IPA I will seek out when there is nothing else available. I guess I am used to Lagunitas.

That's cool and good to hear.

I guess you just don't hear much about any breweries or good brewpubs down there. Like I said, I know there are at least two pretty great breweries in FL, and I imagine there are a few good ones in NC, but the former deep south seems lacking in good breweries. Aren't there parts of AL, or maybe the whole of it, that don't allow beer over 6%?

It is true that the beer selection at bars here in the deep south generally stinks. I've been all around the region playing and there are only a handful of nightspots I've been to that serve decent beer; most of them are in college towns. But, yes, there are few breweries here. Hell, we still have dry counties! There are a few local "pico" breweries around though and there is one in Columbus, GA called the "Cannon Brew Pub" that makes some tasty brews. Otherwise, there is Lazy Magnolia brewery in Mississippi, The Duck-Rabbit in NC, Sweetwater in Atlanta and a few others. As far as beer over 6%, I don't really have any facts about that. We live on the AL-GA border and since there's a couple of good package stores in Columbus it's easy to escape the dearth of beer in good old AL.
