What's Cocobolo like to work with? I've read it's really oily. Any problems with reaction to the dust?

It can be very oily from my experience however you can combat that with alcohol, mineral spirits ect.
A person's reaction to it will very, some are not allergic at all some like myself are quite allergic to it.
The first time I worked with it I got the dust all over and probably inhaled a fair deal, about 12 hours later I had rash head to toe and my face swelled like crazy. Someone on here said that it's like standing down stream of a pepper spray factory and that seems pretty accurate.
I can handle it fine but the dust is stuff I don't like to toy with.

I saw a carpenter go into aniphylactic shock working with Ipe mahogany, he had no idea he was allergic. The medics hit him with an epi pen and he was fine. I have a long term build idea featuring cocobolo, let's hope there is still some available when i get around to it.

That would be me who said that, its pretty brutal. I have a big beautiful slab of cocobolo that my brother gave me years ago that I just haven't used because it is just so bad to work with.

Some pretty nifty figured black walnut I found at my local wood seller. They have a shopping cart full of these little planks... average size 6" to 8"x20" to 25" & around $12 each. I had to restrain myself from buying too many.
It was like Christmas morning when I re-sawed these & saw the bookmatch.
I get paid today... where do you think I'm going after I cash my check
