I can't seem to find the big O's gallery of Stambaughs, w/my fretless 6 & 7. They're so pretty...
I'm ready to buy one of these in a heartbeat. I own a fretted 4-string, which I think is already gorgeous. But this is a whole new level of sexy.
To each their own, and I can see how someone wouldn't like it, but low grade shop project?!

I think the Percy Jones version of this bass is sweet. The Affirma, IIRC.
I agree. Most of these basses seem like they were built for gear-a-holics and collectors; not basses intended for musicians (as most musicians can't afford them anyways). Not to worry, most of the people that buy instruments like that can't really play well, so it's OK with me.

Mine is my avatar. I had it custom built by Fred Bolton. I told Fred what woods I wanted, general color ideas and he took it from there. I trusted him and he did a fantastic job.

Cool. Sounds like a very nice setup. My Conklin is somewhat similar, although I used a blend between the mags and piezo and added a tone knob to the piezo. I originally hoped it would simulate the upright tone a tad better with RMCs, but really it only filtered out finger noise from the stainless steel rounds. Not quite what I envisioned, but useful!

Beautiful top on that. Can't say I'm a fan of how the control area kinda sticks out like a square tumor though. But it doesn't take away from the beautiful craftsmanship.
Don't be a tool. I'm sure the majority of people who buy such instruments are great players. Some may not be as skilled, but whatever, if they like their bass, they like it.
Now that said, I really don't care for most custom electric-basses out there, considering it generally comes down to paying several thousand dollars for veneer and a word inlayed on the headstock...
On the other hand, I also enjoy looking at exotic woods and crazy bass shapes...so I'm torn.
