Yeah. When I saw them live here in Seattle, in November, he used one of those on "Mind Eraser" and couple others. THEY ROCKED. Definitely not as good as live, but still rockin. I can't wait till the new album. I hope they'll be at SXSW next month... :bassist:

It was nice to see Ashton throw a shout out to JPJ during the end, acknowledging he was standing next to 'a legend.' JPJ definitely deserves that attention and for someone I assumed was as disconnected from reality as possible (Kutcher), to say that was really something. It's good to know that most people know John Paul Jones was the bassist/keyboardist for one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

I don't think he was "sing(ing) some backups" . . . all three members of the band (Josh Homme, John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl) sang lead vocals on that 1st song ("Mind Eraser, No Chaser") . . . I see that JimmyM wasn't impressed . . .

The "other guy on guitar" is Alain Johannes, and he's not a "member" of the group . . .

Have to say I was very disappointed in the way they sounded. Did they not do a sound check before they went on the air? WAY to much guitar, especially on the first song. That wah was just overpowering everything else. I have heard clips of their album and those songs sound much better. Hope they don't have this mix at all their live shows!

I only saw the second song, and the only reason I paid attention at all after hearing a few bars was that I recognized Jones. The "song" just didn't have anything going on that I was hearing.

Not for me...

Of course, it could be that I'd just finished watching Esperanza Spalding on Austin City Limits before I switched to see that debacle that used to be SNL 30 years ago...

I have to agree with JTE and JimmyM. I watched and really wanted to be blown away... It just didn't happen. This is one time when the whole was not greater than the sum of the parts. I love Dave Grohl and JPJ is an inspiration. But it didn't click for me. Wished they would have played something a little slower and let it breathe a little more.

I'm a little underwhelmed by TCV on a whole (I REALLY wanted to love the record) but it's nice to see JPJ back in the spotlight again & doing something interesting/challenging as opposed to some of his ex-bandmates.

I assume that you're refering to Jimmy Page . . . Robert Plant's work with Alison Krauss has definitely put HIM "back in the spotlight again & doing something interesting/challenging" . . . and John Bonham has been DEAD for so MANY years . . . :cool: . . .

Actually I was referring to Bob. Without trying to get into a big thing, I just find the Krauss stuff pretty boring. Just my opinion though....
And yes, I am acutely aware that Bonham has shuffled off this mortal coil.
