Them Crooked Vultures on SNL 2/6/10

I love their album and the live stuff I've seen of them is absolutely awesome. I love me some Them Crooked Vultures

I just found out about TCV this week and picked up the lastest Guitar mag to read the article on them. Lots of potential, and if a 2nd album is in the works it'll be interesting to hear how that sounds compared to this 1st one.

I started listening to the CD today and it's got a bit too much of Josh H. QOTSA sound too it. It does have an element of the Cream power trio to it, and lots of energy.

Grohl is phenomenal on drums, and JPJ is well...JPJ...having laid down some of the best bass grooves with Zeppelin. Great to see him singing too.

Funny that JPJ looks the healthiest and leanest of all 3...

Better sound in that ACL video.

I realize now they are definitely not a trio. They have a guitar player playing with them.

You open a music mag and you can find interviews to only 3 members of the band as if they are the band. But then when they play live they have this extra player who is "not" a part of the band.

I saw that happening with some other bands and dont like that.

Anyway they get much more interesting when the recording is more clear like in this case. I'm also pushing myself to like this band. Always liked Zeppelin and like FF too.

Have to say I was very disappointed in the way they sounded. Did they not do a sound check before they went on the air? WAY to much guitar, especially on the first song. That wah was just overpowering everything else. I have heard clips of their album and those songs sound much better. Hope they don't have this mix at all their live shows!

They probably did do a soundcheck, but SNL is notorious for butchering bands' sounds in the transmission, no matter what they sound like in the show's actual soundstage.
