Meh. You put several billion of any organism on any one rock and just the math alone dictates that sometimes things will get ugly. I think there are more good human organisms than bad. That's good enough for me. For every instance of your glass is half empty list I can show you at least one good deed, donated organ, saving another's life, walking an old lady across the street, or other random act of kindness. If you LOOK for the woes, you will find them. If you LOOK for the beauty of humanity, you will find that too. Change your glasses.

I've never been called that before! My day is complete!

Are you claiming that tribalism doesn't exist? I'm not sure if that's what you're claiming..
But, long long before there were several billion of us on this "rock", we were killing each other, no?

Now that's not to say that there are not good folks around either, and also I actually made no claims that "differences" automatically meant "death" now did I, honey buns?
Rather, what I mean is that it's a basic part of the human psyche to view things in an "us and them" fashion. Take a look around you, do you not see it? One would have to be blind not to - black vs white, liberal vs conservative, Islam vs Judaism, Yankees vs Red Sox, Fender Jazz players vs Precision Bass players, etc etc etc.
Some kill for those differences, some simply argue, some don't feel strongly enough to even comment, some even celebrate those differences perhaps, but that aspect - 'us vs them" is a basic human component regardless is it not?

Perhaps I read too much into your post. It seemed to me that you were almost implying that virtually every human is walking around looking for an excuse to disagree with another human. You came across as pretty "doom and gloom". And, sure, people kill people. And it is almost always senseless. But percentage wise, I think that is actually a small percentage of what goes on every day here on Earth.

And I LOVE honey buns!

No, not at all. To further clarify - Some maybe, but I think very few of us walk around actually looking for an excuse to disagree with another, what I think happens is rather if/when we find one, we have this uncanny knack of categorizing that other person as one of "them", especially if it's something we feel strongly about.
Some of us brush it off as not even being worthy of mentioning, but others kill and die for it. It's been a part of human nature since day one.
I also don't feel that people are inherently bad to be quite honest, but let's try a little thought experiment for a moment - let's say that we believed in the altruistic nature of man so much, that we created a society with NO laws - we simply relied on everyone to do what's 'right". How do you think that would play out over a period of 10 years or so...?

Oh that would be a total mess, I agree. I get it. The laws are for the relatively few who would kill over "us and them".

I'm not even disagreeing with you per say. It just seemed like your post came from a glass is half empty perspective. That's all.

No worries, I wasn't really going for a glass half full OR half empty to be honest, more like: here's a empty glass and a bottle of beer next to it, now we get to decide what to do with it :)
