Glad I switched to short scale only, far less temptation to buy a ton of basses haha.
Well, now I don't feel too bad about my waaaaaaaayyyyy-less-than-that-yet-largely-underused collection!

Running a bass rescue shelter can be spiritually rewarding, but in addition to being expensive to run, it has a sad side too.

Although generally I consider mine to be a no-kill shelter. I have 14 basses and haven't sold a bass in nearly 30 years.
Good job! I, too, am a 'rescuer' of basses. I have a small on-line company 'String rescue', in which I reunite parts from stringed instruments (mainly electric guitars and basses) and try to place them in new homes a whole instruments again. Like pet rescue, except pets don't come in pieces!

I was that way for most of the 90's. I found the "one" early in that decade and remained true to it until i took on another bass to avoid exposing my favorite to the harsh outdoor conditions found in high summer along the NW Florida gulf coast when i landed a job doing a series of outside summer and fall events there.
