No. Not by any stretch of the imagination. This has been discussed ad nauseum here at TB, as well, but the short answer is absolutely not. My Zon is a 34" scale, and it's B string rocks the earth.

I'd say the most noticeable diffs between a 34" and 35" scale is how they feel to your hands and their overtone sequence. Some people feel intonating a fretless is easier on a 34" scale bass. Other than that, it's how it feels to your fretting hand, and to be honest, that depends greatly on bass construction (determining neck placement relative to your body)... it can be minimal or significant.
