Cost of strings.
Lack of gear in stores.
Heaviness of gear.
It's ok for the guitarist to switch from electric to acoustic but it's not ok for you to switch to fretless.
"Oh cool, you are in a band! What do you play?"
"Bass"
"Oh...."

"bass? what's that? like the big bass?"
"No, not upright bass, bass guitar."
"oh a bass guitar!.... what's that?"
"Why does it only have 4 strings?"
"What are all those pedals for? You use pedals on bass?"

The fact that guitarists can play a 60 watt Fender DeVille at resonable volume but I need at least a half stack to compete.
Sound techs who insist you turn down but don't want to bring you up in the monitors when you already can't hear your 4x10 aimed at your knees.
Sound techs who bitch about how "complicated" your setup is but add their own DI when you already have one on the back of your amp and one on your pre stomp box.

That's all you need.
I could count the amount of sound techs I've come across who know how to mix a bass so that it doesn't disappear in an overly loud kick drum on one hand.
I'm probably exagerating but that's how it seems.

And since I am a professional drummer first, I can also say that the biggest thing a drummer hates is a crappy bassist.

Another vote for sound techs, it's like they have a vendetta against bassists.
"Why do you play bass? Was guitar just too hard for you?"
Needing a half stack to keep up with a guitarist's amp.

This is usually followed by me killing it on their guitar, unless they are a good guitarist, in which case they probably didn't ask me that question.

I love small guitar shops because they usually have more knowledge and actually remember you when you come in, but they all sell the same stuff.
Another pet peeve of mine is when people say that playing bass is boring. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?! Playing bass is awesome if you're doing it right.

+1000 to every thing mentioned here except using a sansamp for your DI live. To me, that's the way to go!
And I would like to add, Guitards that throw soooooo much freaking bass EQ on their amps that I need 6 8X10 cabinets and 5000 watts just to compete with their marshall half stack.

these are about my upright, but still worthy of mention:
1) people calling my bass a "big guitar"
2) people looking at my bass and saying, "oh...that's a cello right?"
3) the people that, after a "bowed" performance, invariably say, "boy,i love to hear them things plucked!"

+1, i know how you feel.
a.)cost of strings.. possibly one of the worst
b.)people thinking because you play bass you can't think up any riffs or anything for original songs (in my old band i made up the main riff but our guitarist tried to take credit, that band ended up falling apart once i decided to leave).
c.)playing basses in guitar center and getting looked at by guitarists who look at you like you suck because they can play the same solo over and over again.
d.)people who think bass is easier because it has lesser strings.
e.)gene simmons
f.)people who think playing with a pick means you suck. a lot of famous bassists have used picks, i use both fingers and picks, though.
g.)boring basslines.
