Things Only Canadians Do...

I remember being in Chicago once with a friend, seeing some of his family friends. We ended up showing them our money, and I explained to them about the historical significance of the five dollar bill - how it has children playing hockey on a lake is a tribute to the summertime hockey camps that were mandatory for all children until the patriation of our constitution in 1982. Every summer all people under 18 years of age had to attend hockey camps every summer to train for the olympic and NHL teams, which were the best jobs in Canada at the time, all others paid about as well as working at a Timmy's, which is like Canadian McDonald's.

This practice was abolished in 1982, as it was deemed unconstitutional.

Aside from the US national anthem, O Canada is the only national anthem that I know all of the words to.

I am particularly moved by the part that goes ...With da da hearts, we da da dah, the true north strong and free, da da da da dah, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee...

Edit: Dammit, I lied. I know God Save the Queen. Oh well. O Canada is more fun to sing. God Save the Queen almost never starts a hockey game.

Called a "Dark and Stormy" in Bermuda.....Gosling's dark rum with ginger beer.....My tipple of choice!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
My wife and I like to feel very civilized by drinking a small glass of Goslings rum and eating high percentage chocolate. No need for mixers, ice, or sugar. Goslings makes every other rum taste like rot gut now that I have got used to it.

Alas, we are not Canadian. I'm American and she's a naturalized American from London. Two people separated by a common language.
