Guinness is owned by a British company.
I looked up Canadian Club. It was owned by Hiram Walker, who started out in Detroit. He did move it to Windsor, Ontario but ownership didn't change.
Today it's owned by Beam Suntory....an American compnay.
It was originally started in Canada, then they merged with Hiram walker.

Actually, one of the great Canadian inventions is ginger ale. The "Canada Dry" thing is more than just a trade name.
The Ganong Bros. in St. Stephen N.B. also invented the chocolate bar, well in advance of Hershey.
*And* the very best thing is crunchy Cheezies! Made exclusively in Tweed/Belleville, Ontario by the W.T. Hawkins Co. since 1949. Not soft like Cheetos, but with a real crunch! Deeeelish!

In Oz we have a soft drink ('soft drink' is our name for 'pop' or 'soda') style called 'Dry Ginger Ale' - same stuff I wonder? Very different to Ginger Beer but a great mixer, goes well with Canadian Club (my Uncle just called it 'Rye') or Whiskey.
I like DGA straight as well, very refreshing.
Yeah, I remember that from 6 months I spent in Oz on sabbatical. DGA is basically the same product sold over here as Canada Dry Ginger Ale. It was invented up here for exactly the reason you use it—as a mix during prohibition, particularly for bad hooch. "Rye" and ginger is a standing mixed drink over here too. Not as good as dark rum with ginger beer and fresh lime! There's another type of ginger ale that we call "golden" ginger ale: much more gingery and fizzy. It get's right up your nose. Vernor's makes this type in the U.S. Couldn't say if you could get *that* in Oz.
Called a "Dark and Stormy" in Bermuda.....Gosling's dark rum with ginger beer.....My tipple of choice!

Gosling's Black Seal is the ultimate rum as far as I'm concerned. Delicious. And dangerous.
It's freakin' awesome with egg nog.

I'd always called rye whisky, Canadian (not to be confused with Canadian Club.)
