Just rewatched John Boorman's Excalibur. Known and loved this film for many years.

I never realized that the actress playing Morgana was a young Helen Mirren. Crikey.

Yeah, I went looking her up after seeing the credits. Excalibur was 1981 (and was already her 14th film, but the one that brought her to the attention of wider audiences). Already by her work in the mid-80s she seemed to be playing roles that read more middle-aged. But I see she was born in 1945, so she was already 36 in Excalibur. She seems to have had one of those late-blooming careers in film; so many women have a harder time getting roles as they age, but she's the opposite.

I usually feel like an idiot when I am in way over my head. Like playing bass in my first band. Lots of other things that push my boundaries and stretch me. It is uncomfortable but also very rewarding. Even posting here for the first time was a little humbling. People like Makii and others were doing lots of posting at the time and I didn't know what kind of reception I would receive.

Understanding my new boss.

He's a generation that thinks in numbers and bullet points, and that's all he will accept for responses to his information requests.

I'm in a generation where every report needs an explanation, or at least a sentence or two of context.

Methinks I'm lucky that I'm well eligible to retire.

My job, I work on/repair/maintain a extensive variety of equipment it's mind boggling . I've learned one must know how to read ,comprehend what they've read ,and apply it physically. To much to ever commit to memory . Some days I wonder why me. I do enjoy it and that makes it rewarding for me. Gotta love what you do.

It wasn't until the late '80s (when I was in my mid-20s) that I finally got these lyrics:

Isaac said he kissed you

You're way ahead of your times

I thought Michael were just throwing names out there. I hadn't connected "Isaac" to Isaac Newton, "Benji" to Benjamin Franklin, "Alexander" to Alexander Graham Bell, and "Christopher" to Christopher Columbus. I guess I never really paid attention to the lyrics!:oops::facepalm:

What is the song these are from? Doesn't ring any bells but I'm 22.. But those lyrics have me wanting to check out wherever they are from.

Thanks! Haven't dug into the Jackson 5 yet but I dig the tunes of theirs I've heard(pretty much radio stuff I 'spose..). I've been buried in jazz and my timing/internal clock. Speaking of which, I feel like an idiot when I'm carrying a groove and melody playing alone w/ drum machine efx pedal and I try to chop it up and totally destroy the groove... I usually change position and start a new one but hey hey what can I do :D

Didn't hear about that, but looking her up, I did find that she was considered the resident sex appeal of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 70s. Funny how now everyone associates her with Grand Old Lady roles.
