Things that you think about TB that can't possibly be true, right?

For all the talk about flats, those must be the strings everyone uses, right?
Deep down, nobody actually wants to be talked out of buying another bass, right?
Talkbass is an accurate reflection of the actual bass industry and bass players in general, right?
Everyone on Talk Bass is vying for the approval of “the pros.”

I think the folks who run it are sound. You’d have to be, given the posters sometimes! I include myself in this.

1) Always fire the drummer
Usually true but not always. Some extremely talented drummers are just very opinionated and sometimes more talented than the rest of the band....I speak from experience.
2) Flats wounds are better than round wounds or vice-versa.
The best strings are the ones you like and works excellently with your music.
3) Bass players never get laid.
Usually true especially when we're old but we usually have a devoted mate that supports and loves you.
...there are exceptions to this theory
4) Tube amps sound many times better than transistor 'D' amps.
This is true but 99% of the listening public can't tell the difference or even care.
Even if they feel your tube amp is playing is great, they don't know why and just think, you are good at what you do.
5) In order to be admired for your using your expensive boutique bass, it will only come from another bassist.
The general public has no idea what the hell you are playing, let alone the fact that they can't even tell if you are just another one of the guitar players doing their thing.
6) Great bassist can make a living just performing and recording as a bassist.
Sometimes true but more times it's not, you need a day job or lots of paying bass students or be well known.
7) If you get stumped, or unsure how to proceed with a song or bass repair, TalkBass is #1 for answers.
True, but be sure to sort out the good from the bad info

All budget brand basses are better than their parent brand or conversly the parent name brand has never produced a dog. Also, all boutiques are always worth every penny.
A lot of posters on TB don’t actually know what they’re talking about and are just regurgitating information easily and more efficiently found by just using the Google. Keyword....”A Lot”, not all.
The effects forum is the most open an honest section of TB, where no one ever gets warned or trolled.
99 out of 100 people in the audience are thinking: "I don't like the tone of that Squier. A Fodera would make SUCH a difference." The other one thinks it's a shame the tuner pedal is not true bypass, because that's ruining the enjoyment.
