old roundwounds are great for reaming out bongs and one-hitters
keep a 1' piece of different gauge roundwounds for nut files...
not as quick acting as a proper cutting file, but will do the job...
I reckon they're a bit thick for use as a garrote...

A while back I used an old G- or D-string in a provisional repair of the accellerator wire in a friend's car...
Apart from that... nothing. I have a cardboard box full of used strings...
Bass strings are probably a little too thick, but I have heard of auto/body guys using guitar strings to remove windshields in cars. Poking it through the seal and running it around the edge.
I'm definitely going to try the weed whacker idea!!!!!
