Are used strings good for ANYTHING? I keep all my old string sets because I think they might be useful for something, but in 15 years, I haven't figured out what. Have any of you thought of anything at all they can be used for? (...and I'm trying to think outside of the box....)

A while back I used an old G- or D-string in a provisional repair of the accellerator wire in a friend's car...
Apart from that... nothing. I have a cardboard box full of used strings...

I've heard you can use them to replace the plastic string in a weed whacker...but I've never tried it.
I used to boil my old string when they went dead... and re-use them
til they fell apart... that's when I was 14 and had no money. Now I have a drawer full of NEW sets

You could make a super-awesome Christmas wreath with them.
Or cut the (haha) balls off of them and string those onto a sweet necklace or bracelet.
If you're into accupuncture, you could sterilize them and stab yourself - well guitar strings would probably be better for that.

I've hung a couple bird feeders with used strings. I'm definitely going to try one in a weed whacker!
I stuck a used g-string in the coaxial input on a tv, it worked great as an antenna...it was there for years.
I am not sure how dumb it would be to buy a crap load of used strings off of somebody on ebay. Some people like the tone of a dead string.
I usually have an old alcohol-washed set with me. Washed strings are not as bright as new strings are, so are better for emergency replacement.

in highschool i had a friend that used some old bass strings to repair a big hole in his schoolbag.

use the lighter gauge strings to hang pictures with, maybe use the heavier gauge ones as hinge supports for a trunk lid or something so it stays open without going past a 90 degree angle? or cut them up and use the lighter ones as building materials for model train set landscaping (power lines, cable car cables...) and stuff like that.
