Things to use old strings for

I remember an old Scale Model Builder magazine article where someone used a G string for legit looking cables in the building of a T-800 (Terminator) model.

+1. It was the exhaust for a Suzuki jeep from my former guitard. We were on our way to practice at the time. If we were 2 guitards, we would have lost the muffler.

Anyone recycle the strings? I use all steels on my Corvette Std and when I change the strings I simply walk out to my garage and throw them in the big recycling bin! Not too sure if you can recycle nickel plated strings, or strings in general but when I am slappin' a fresh set I can rest assured knowing I'm saving the planet one string at a time or so I think

I'm considering buying a digital caliper, going through the bag, and sorting them all by gauges. Donating them to my old high school's jazz band program sounds like a great idea to me.

You can use old strings for gurrot (?) wire, should you ever start a second career as a secret agent. If you ever go to prison you could trade them for some weed possibly. You can set up trip wires in your yard. It's funny to me to see the mail man go down and mail fly everywhere.

A E string or a B if you have one make a great snake for your sink. Work the ball end down the drain and use a drill to spin it, works like a charm. I use D or G's to fish wires, wrap the wire through the ball & pull it through. Great for when your putting ape hangers on a Harley.

I just used a string end as rigging for a model fishing trawler.
Looks great. Also, I am going to build a container model and
will be using used strings to create realistic hoses on the reefer unit.

I'd spend a little more and get a decent dial caliper. Accurate
to .001 and never needs a battery.

Also, I was at a benefit 2 years ago and a former friend

I give my "old" strings (I try to change them once a month, at least) to bass players in my area who don't have the dough to try out different guages and brands, or who've just bought Ernie Ball without trying anything else 'cause that's what the local stores carry.

It's turned a few people on to Rotosounds and Fodera strings. They should send me Christmas cards for the business I've sent their way over the years

Well if you're in prison, are improvising a tattoo gun, and need a needle for it, you can strip the windings off and use the core. My suggestion would be to smuggle them to inmates at a premium, 10 bucks a string or something like that. This is common knowledge, the History Channel told me.

I keep my bike in the shed and as added protection (alarmed shed) I stretch an old g string inside the door across the door lintle. Ive attached small fishing hooks with fishing line han ging off the string at head height. So if anyone walks into the shed without invitation they get a facefull of pain.

I've heard you can use them to replace the plastic string in a weed whacker...but I've never tried it.

I got bored and curious, plus it was grass cutting day, and I'd just like to say that this is a BAD idea if you're wearing shorts.
