Stereoscopes used two photographs of the exact same image a few centimeters apart using two cameras side by side. When viewed through the glasses at a certain distance, they produced a 3D effect of the image.

Cool! That amazes me that they were flirty with illusion of three-dimensional depth that long ago!

Here is a real Odd Ball looking piece of equipment. It’s a 35mm WW2 Japanese Type 89 “Rokuoh-Sha” (made by Konica) Air Force Machine Gun Movie Camera that they used for Training Machine Gunners. This could be mounted on the wing and controlled remotely (by the wires in the case) or ..mounted in the Waist Gunner’s position for hands on target practice.
