Don't see many Howard Johnson's at all any more - do they still exist anywhere? The last one I knew of personally is now something else. (No great loss, in my opinion.)
It looks like the Howard Johnson Restaurants are done. However, the Hotel chain is still going strong as a subsidiary of the Wyndham Hotel Company.

Contac capsules:
I think they contained the stuff that ended up being the key ingredient in street meth. It might also have to do with the Tylenol capsule poisonings in the early '80s. Contac was once a very popular cold medicine. The commercials for it were very common.
AFAIK, Contac is in caplet/tablet form with different ingredients now.

I like the statement on the package for "Common Cold & Hay Fever" instead of "Allergies". I do not see any medicines that say "Hay Fever" on them now.
There was one we almost stayed at--but after going to our room and finding a dirty room--and a previous guest's underwear--we went to the desk, said we couldn't stay there, and left--never got charged for it--so we drove around and found a much better place for about $10 more a night--and well worth it.
Apparently the place has a new owner now.

Yeah, the fried clams. I used to go to HoJo for lunch with my mother when I was a kid and get PB&J sandwiches. And they were the restaurant at the rest stops on the PA turnpike in the 60s.You may recall that each Howard Johnson's Restaurant also had ice cream.
Yes, I remember the Howard Johnson's Restaurants at the Pennsylvania Turnpike rest stops too like these.
Now that would be an excellent metal band name!
