I did have to buy a "slip stick" in high school, but fortunately affordable calculators came onto the scene before I really had to learn how to use it.
The physics teacher was selling these round slide rules with the slogan shown.
Of course, we always said "Physics is Ph***ed." Yes, juvenile—but it was high school!
Such cool devices. And they helped us get to the moon and do other tremendous things before computers were wide-spread.
I still have my circular slide rule from high school. When the first $300 4 or 5 function calculators came on the market I was in love.
I am constantly amazed by the things the aerospace engineers of the '50s & '60s were able to accomplish with what little they had to work with (compared to today).
Sometimes we can do more with less.
They used their brains a bit more then. It is kind of scary how people have let go of ordinary skills, tasks, and creative thinking.
