“Three in the tree!”
When in high school, I had use of my stepfather’s 68 Chevelle wagon with a 250 cid in-line 6 with a three speed on the column and no power steering. It had power assisted brakes, a heavy duty suspension, vinyl bench seats with a lap belt only. The only concession to luxury was an AM radio. It was a horror to drive. The transmission linkage would lock up if you didn’t baby it, requiring you to pull over and get under the hood to fix it. If you drove it with the rear window in the tailgate down, the exhaust gas would pour into the interior, so you’d have to roll down all of the windows if you needed to haul anything that wouldn’t fit in the back of the wagon. A misery in the winter. All crank windows, by the way, including the tailgate which had to be rolled down from the outside of the car.

It was a horrible car, but I loved it.
