While on vintage electronics, I'll throw this one out there. This is a GE portable tube radio. I remember that it took a lot of batteries, my mom used it as a table radio in our kitchen. I don't think that we ever used it's portable function. Ours was white with black trim instead of green trim, but I was happy to just find a photo of the exact model online.
The other and honestly most interesting thing, at least to me is that this radio is part of my earliest memory. I was born in May of 1959. My earliest memory was of being in the kitchen with my mom, the song "Big girls don't cry" was playing on the radio. That song hit number one on the Billboard chart in November of 1962. So, there is a chance that I was roughly three and a half years old at the time. In any case, I was very young.
