Question for the other old farts in this thread: I have a distinct memory of a couple of kids in the neighborhood having these little cars with fuel burning motors in them. They were loud and fast as hell, but I don't think they could be controlled other than "point and watch". The fuel smelled like rocket fuel and came in metal cans. Any idea what these might have been? I bet they morphed into the radio controlled cars that are popular today.
I've got some serious catching up to do in this thread....
Regarding the above, I have a clear bittersweet memory of those cars. My parents got me this one for Christmas:

The bittersweet part is that I REALLY REALLY wanted the Cox Dune Buggy (which was the one on the TV commercial). My parent's got me the Baja Bug instead because it was a few dollars cheaper. I have a photo around somewhere of me opening the gift at 7 years old. I have a forced smile on my face... was a great moment in time as I think it actually captured the second the disease of GAS set in me. And I'm not joking. When I could finally afford to buy my own toys I decided I'm getting WHATEVER I want, WHENEVER I want, and EXACTLY as I want it.
Irony is I actually liked the Baja Bug much more than the Dune Buggy that everyone else had. It was way cooler.
As if the one-sy suit wasn't bad enough, the blue rubber boots worn by Tom Selleck's stunt double (on the right) are icing on the proverbial cake of bad taste.

It's actually only a half of a gun, as the other side is flat right down the center with the clasp and fastener sticking out. She had to discard it before boarding

Actually have a couple floating around the house. One time after I'd taken off my right boot, trying to get the left boot off it slipped, and the backwards force I was applying with my left leg just about peeled the toenails off my right foot. Still remember hopping around in helluva pain with one boot still on.
