This brought back a memory for me regarding dune buggies. In the 80s a friend of my father aquired a dune buggy with a VW Beetle engine in the rear. This is a very rare vehicle to see in belgium. It was so light in the front that you barely could steer it in road use. My father fixed this by finding any empty spaces in the front, line it with tarp and pouring concrete into it. Was this a common practice with dune buggies?
Re: on the toy. My first remote control car as a kid was wired. It probably looked silly waddling after it but at least it got me some excercise.
When I was a kid I saw one take off at Wright-Patterson. It was deafening.
There is a great 50's video on YouTube that has footage of the B-58 low-altitude test flight across the US. How cool would it have been to see that? That's something you'll never see any more.
