The Amphicat is a six-wheel-drive, skid steer amphibious all-terrain vehicle invented in Spain by José Artés de Arcos, manufactured in the late 1960s through the early 1970s by Mobility Unlimited Inc. of Auburn Hills, Michigan. The product line was purchased by Magna American (a division of Magna Corporation) which produced the vehicle in Raymond, Mississippi for several years. The vehicle was also made in Canada by Behoo Industries and differed slightly from its American counterpart, mostly on the transom.

The Canadian version of the Amphicat was featured as the moon buggy used by Moonbase Alpha personnel in the television series Space: 1999 and the US version as the Banana Splits' cars in the TV show Banana Splits. It also appeared in the TV series Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp and in an episode of Blake's 7.

True story, back in the 80s we had one of those. We'd just re-arranged to house to give the kids some more room. We relocated to a smaller bedroom. I put the hose into the Waterbed to re-fill it. Wife was watching TV and fell asleep. I was punching buttons on my computer, at about midnight I could hear water running, wife was still asleep on the lounge and thought no more of it until a few minutes later, it occurred to me, "why is a kid having a shower at midnight" (they were all in school back then). I get up to investigate and suddenly find a flood slowly leaving the bedroom and encroaching upon the living room via a hallway! The next three hours were spent attempting to stem the flood, drain the bed (again) and finding somewhere else to sleep for what was left of the night!
Oh, well, we needed new carpet in that room anyway.........

Man, that brings back memories. One of my friends' dads won one of those in some contest and he would sometimes take us out riding in it. Once we even drove into a pond, and it floated just fine. It didn't do a whole lot more than that, though, as there wasn't much of a way to steer it once in the water. :D

Since you live in the Southern Hemisphere, doesn’t the water run/flow uphill?

I remember these being on sale at Sears, next to the bicycle section. Not sure if it were this exact brand or another one. I remember being confused because there didn't seem to be any wheels that steered (I didn't know about skid-steers, I was only about 7).
