We were crazy when I was a kid. Lived in a nabe on a steep hill so everything was about gravity. Used to ride Bigwheels and slide out until the back wheels wore out. Then screwed a piece of Masonite on the bottom and went off road, sliding down dry grass slopes behind the houses. Lots of tumbles and stickers in the socks.okay more Jersey fun was we used to break off the top cage of the shopping karts

to get to this bottom kart and add a piece of wood and ride it down hills on busy streets yeah no helmets just crazy thrill seeking kids
I had a Schwinn 20” 2-speed (shift by backpedaling) in metallic blue with a banana seat. Both of these bikes have ‘sissy bars’, the chrome bar holding up the back of the seat extending up a couple feet.
Totally free-range kids. I was outside all the time, and we lived in a cold climate, even in summer. There was a kid down the street with a German mom who’d forbid him from going more than 3 or 4 houses away. My mom called her ‘Mrs. Gestapo’.Yep, those were the days....out for 12-14 hours, not be tracked by parents, no phone calls home....just out being kids in the neighborhood. Good times .....good times.
Oh man! We stayed most of our pre-teen and early teen Summers at my Grandma’s with my Cousins along with our Bikes and BB guns…what a great memory. She lived near a large woods and creek and just like you we had to be home for dinner. My Grandma was the epitome of a Grandma. We were playing and just being kids. I wonder if this generation has the same experiences?Totally free-range kids. I was outside all the time, and we lived in a cold climate, even in summer. I had the great experience of two years at the end of grammar school at a fine private school with tuition paid by a merit scholarship, a place that had been the Crocker Mansion in Hillsborough, CA with extensive laurel and oak woods behind it. I was the leader of a gang of kids and played most of the days in the woods, pretending to be in WWII. We skipped a lot of classes but never got punished because we were otherwise good kids and there was nothing to rebel against there, just the best teachers in a great setting. Saw herds of hundreds of deer the first year.Oh man! We stayed most of our pre-teen and early teen Summers at my Grandma’s with my Cousins along with our Bikes and BB guns…what a great memory. To me the classic cassette print ad was Maxell...
