I've had a cheap knockoff on my Amazon wishlist for a number of years. They come in a bunch of colors. Apparently, even the original is back in production.

I've never actually seen one of these in real life. But pretty sure we'll never see them anymore. I was just discussing this my neighbor who loves camping and just got a new 5th wheel unit.
We're here, we still make art, we still make music, many people still give a generous amount of time and resources to charities, many people are doing their best for the environment, there are still many parents raising their kids right...we do well in many ways that don't always make the news.
Does the bracket on top of the car actually hook to the drip rails?

They don't get into details here on the bracket. There is another video of a guy with a restored VW and camper unit where the rail does fit into the drip rail and is bolted through the headliner. So no idea what the original setup was like.
Yes, it looks sketchy but I think that whole 360 turning radius is so cool to watch. Once you get used to how the rear of the trailer spins out it's probably real easy to get into narrow camping spots.
Here's an article with a little more info on it. Shows the restored one I had seen elsewhere. Is it wrong to say if I actually went camping I'd want one of these?
