Yes, former years I was pretty adamant about fretless basses having slanted pickups the way the frets are, in order to pick up harmonics evenly and on the spot. Today, I have revised my opinion, and especially on humbuckers and with humbucker casing they shouldn't be slanted, they can very well be mounted straight, so there's more room for the thumb to rest on, and the possibility to change out to third party pickups. Especially Dingwalls. Found out that low B strings were always kind of weak. So the pickup needs to pluck up the strings vibration further into the strings speaking length. Revised opinion.
revised my opinion on nuts. Today, I - frankly - more and more wants only basses with zero frets. SLOWLY DAWNED on me, that their beneficial at all times, at all reasons. The other day found out that I had to raise the nut on one of my stashed away basses, which been laying in its case. Haven't played it. The strings push the nut down to too low levels so string buzzes at first few frets, and had to shim it and raise it.
But that's it.
