Thinking about a Sadowsky MV5

I had the Bergantino IP112/HT112 setup with an Alembic F-1X preamp. I'm MUCH happier with the Shroeders.

I want a bass that will sound natural with the EQ serving as frequency adjsutments.

One of the rules of thumbs someone once told me is that a bass has to say "Honey, I'm home" when you play it. That's why I'm leary of buying one hoping that the magic will show up during a gig.

Interesting. I too had an IP112/EX112 stack. I wouldn't ever say I hated the rig. It was quite impressive for what it was. But, ... it just didn't have the depth or fullness across the room, so I sold it. I had also been using a Markbass LMII head with a Bergie HT/EX stack, and with more EQ boost on my amp, I was able to get nearly as much performance out the HT/EX stack as the IP112 stack. It was within about 10%. But ultimately, I switched my cab to an Epifani UL310 and I am much happier with the punch, fullness and low end across the room. But back to the topic, no matter how good it sounded in a store, I had to buy it and try it on a gig to find out for myself.

I tend to love mid scooped tones on a bass when playing solo, but in the band mix, that just gets completely lost!

I find the sadowsky neck to be the most comfortable I have played, with Ken Smiths being a close second. I've had my grubby mitts on alot of basses too.. I have played F's before, and I do like those as well.

I have found that the F Bass neck is very similar to the Sadowskys I have tried. For me, I think I prefer the feel of the Smith. A little but slimmer and faster, IMHO. Overall, I think the F Basses are very similar to Sadowsky in a lot of ways, feel of the neck, tone etc. While they may look a lot different, if you strap it on and close your eyes, they are quite similar.

Wow! -1!!! I don't think the F Bass neck which is thinner (Less deep) is anything like the chunky Sadowsky neck at all. (5 string to 5 string) I also don't think the tones are the same at all. Hmmm ...and I own an F Bass BN5.

After playing two seperate F-Basses for about a month total, I completely agree. The necks feel very similar to my Sadowsky. The neck on mine is certainly not "chunky" at all. They both have a jazz bass tone, but I preferred the Sadowsky over the F with a live band.

I have been using my Nordstrand Nordy in place of my F Bass in the band these days. So maybe there's something about an uber cool jazz style bass that gets the job done in a band setting. Not that the F Bass was bad in any way.

What model and specs is your Sadowsky?

I really liked the F's too but just not as much as the Sadowsky live. Mine's a Metro Standard natural ash with maple board, VTC and single-coils. Over the past couple of years I've been through Roscoe, MTD 535, F-Bass's(didn't own but played live a LOT) and even a Sadowsky Modern. There is just something magical about the Sadowsky jazz models.

Also, out of all of those basses, the Sadowsky jazz was my LEAST favorite at home. On the gig, it's a different story.

A slightly different theme but here goes:

Sadowsky Metro Modern 5 + RBI + Crest CA-6 + Acme B-4 = one night in a New Orleans brothel with a refill on my Viagra, half box of condoms, and my wife's VISA card.

Hell, I can get barbecue any time!
