Thinking about getting a Daisy Rock bass.

Played through a few Daisies at NAMM a couple years back, and was singularly unimpressed. By any and all of them. Just...meh. They look cool, but they're not, you know, all that, as far as construction. If you want a "girl" bass, check out Luna. Their instruments are *far* superior to the Daisy line. Beautiful, beautifully made, and the playability and the sound just leaves Daisy wilting in the dust.

I received a Daisy Rock bass from MF, and let me tell you...giant hunk of poopoo. I got the pink sparkly one, normal body shape. Total junk. It has got one coat of shielding paint in the cavities, so I still pick up radio signals with it. Fretwork is decent, the nut though, ugh. I cut- not scraped, cut - my hand on the outer corner of it. I sanded it down though. the bridge has nasty lift, I'm guessing the metal is weak...or its just bent to begin with. Neck pocket is gappy, on one side. The other is super tight. The electronics...frustrating. Bass control is top first, then Treble. Bottom is pickup blend, then volume.

Now, the pickups arent bad. Some weird brand I've never heard of. When I had flats on it I could get decent dub/reggae tones. Put rounds on it though and it was thin, sterile and lifeless.

I'd say save your money :)

I LOVE goofy crap on stage. I'm always looking for the next goofy thing. I keep searching for a decently priced Heartbreaker bass. If I find one, I'll get it! Anyone have one? I'll buy it... well, maybe next paycheck...

I came across this one, and i have my eye on it. Even if the leopard print just a cheesy decal, I think it'd look awesome on stage:

For all the flak, I *like* Daisy Rock basses. And I get a *lot* of flak about them.

From my bandmates. Frrom anyone I give a straight answer to when they ask me about the pretty, sparkly bass.

That being said, if anyone has a Retro H - whole or in parts - they don't want anymore, lemme know.

For real.

omfg yes amzeing...i did that once well i had both basses my fender jazz and this daisy bass from my friends sister the pick ups wher re done and like fender p pick up too (shes hates bass whitch is sad....till this day iv only hooked up with one bass player chick) welll i played a full metallica list to try out for the band they looked at me like i was nuts or something

But...the Daisies are so poorly made! I mean, yeah, they look cooler than the Luna's, but they are made like, well, crap. Eye-popping is fun, but not if the instrument is lousy. The ones I've played, the frets were so poorly installed, they tore at the fingers. The necks were like chunks of lumber. All of the Daisies I played on have been just sloppily constructed.

If Daisy wants to sell me one of their cool-lookin' basses, they need to make them with the kind of quality the Luna's have. Otherwise, I'll stick to my Ibanez GSR 190 and my Waterstone, both of which are nicer than any Daisy I have ever played on, and both of which are beautifully set up.

I did think the Daisy bass with the red stars on the neck looked very rockin'. Too bad it nearly cut my fingers open with its badly-set frets.

Hard to sit with for practice and balance when standing with a standard strap sux, a wide strap is a must. If you're a youngster or teenager with the flexibilty of Gumby I guess sitting wouldn't be a problem.

Fun bass and good for a young girl.
If we EVER play a gig that's right for it(i.e. children's hospital, junior or high school, women's group, etc.) I will bring it to play on at least a few tunes.

They play well. Not great, but well.

I thought about taking one to a blues gig, but that probably would have been over the top.

Inspired by this thread, I looked up Luna basses. The Andromeda Phoenix looked really pretty to me. And on Amazon right now, it's on sale for CHEAP. (Less than $200)

I am so very tempted, but if all I wanted was a lightweight bass, well... the cheap-o student Ibanez I have is the same weight. So I'm not really sure I'm stepping up in the world of instruments, you know?

I'd love to be convinced otherwise if any of you have opinions.

ZOMBIE THREAD!
Picked up a silver glitter Daisy bass due to it being lightweight and audience eye candy.
The neck is OK, pickups tolerable. I do believe my parts Greco LP may donate Greco chrome T-Bird pickups and rings to it plus a chrome BA bridge to make it sound MUCH BETTER and to complete the chrome/glitter overkill.
