Thinking about painting..

Bad Idea? I have a black Geddy Lee Jazz right now, with a 2 ply (W,B) pick guard. However, i'm getting kind of tired of the look, and was kind of wanting to change it up. Are there any good ways to go about repainting a bass? I know a guy who sanded off his paint, and glossed up the natural finished. Looked badass, but I don't think i'd have the balls to take sand paper to my bass Anyway, if you guys have any advice on this subject, any help is appreciated.

My advice is to not do it. I've refinished several Fenders in my lifetime and the finishes could resist a nuclear blast. Most strippers won't touch it, and Fender isn't known for having the best looking wood underneath their solid finishes. I wouldn't do it again for any money. It's so much easier to pick up a replacement body nowdays and just keep your stock Geddy one in the closet. Then you can put it back to stock anytime should you decide to sell it down the road. If you want to mess around with paint, buy a natural body from WD Music, Warmoth, USACG, Mighty Mite, Guitar Mill or similar and go to town. I just wouldn't mess with your stock body.

Yep. It's a ton of work to strip the old paint. And, as Eaglemoon said, it probably won't be a very nice looking body under all that tougher than titanium Fender finish.

You can just lightly sand the finish, then prime and paint over it, though. You could have the only baby blue Geddy bass on the planet that way.
