This can't be real, can it? An Alembic with interchangeable fingerboards?

Check this out - it's on Ebay right now. I've never heard of Alembic doing this and it looks horrible. What do you guys think of this?

It's just one of the many attempts on interchangeable FB's, so what?

Sure, the way it was done could be cleaner, even though most examples I've seen have been much, much worse, but no reason why it couldn't be tidied afterwards.

The idea was great(ish), but very few if any of the designs really offered any real advantages over fixed FB's.

There was a third party company back in the 80s or 90s that offered those interchangeable fingerboards. You sent them your bass and they did the retrofit. The boards were held on by magnets. Not surprisingly, they didn't last very long.

Sorry, can't remember the name of the company but they advertised in Guitar Player (this was before Bass Player existed).

Yes I have a Pre-EB 3 Bolt Stingray that I had modified.

Someone knocked my bass over in the pit and it took a big gash out of the neck edge (took a fret with it BTW)

The maple neck was a goner, so I sent the neck to Novatone for modification.

The magnets hold quite well actually!

If you look through the pics on the listing description you'll see what i'm talking about.. But there are lots and lots of pics. Warwick copied their bridge design so I guess it's not odd.

Had heard of this kind of thing a while back here on TB. Sounds great if you ask me, I'd love a bass like that provided the system works consistently, holds up well and doesn't detract to tone.

Own multiple bases, but all the same color. Only keep 3 in the house at a time. When the wife thinks you snuck a new one in, ask her which one, the black one, the black one, or the black one?
