I wonder if stainless steel finger boards are good for metal.

I bought a bass with the novatone switchboard in the 80s. The magnets eventually lost there ability to adhere. The boards would slide off while the bass was being played. I ended up using the fretboards for kitchen magnets for a while.

Very aware of alembics history, was just odd that the nut looks exactly like warwicks latest design.. Was it a retrofit or did alembic have the exact same design 30 years before warwick? If you look through the pics on the listing description you'll see what i'm talking about.. But there are lots and lots of pics. Warwick copied their bridge design so I guess it's not odd.

Some lower grade stainless is ferrous, and will be attracted by a magnet.

I had a set of those on a Modulus Graphite bolt on 5 string. Not too bad, but if you dropped one and it dinged good luck getting it repaired.
They were called Novatone Switchboards and were made by the Novatone company. It was like Bass Tupperware, you had a couple of representatives in each area that sold direct. In Nashville it was me and Jim Ferguson, I remember Tony Levin and Bill Dickens were on there too. In their wisdom they posted Tony's phone number in the add in Guitar Player Magazine. Can you imagine the harassment that he was subjected to by King Crimson fans?
I can only hope it was his Answering Service:
"Dude, what were you thinking when you played Elephant Talk?"
"But I've got these fingerboards..."
"Huge fan ever since Solsbury Hill!"

Have any of you had any first hand experience with the Mikey Convertible basses? You can switch between fretted and fretless on the fly!

Yes, only the austenitic varities do not have strong ferromagnetic properties.

The ferritic and martensitic varities are ferromagnetic.

The grade by itself has nothing to do with it.

What part of this looks "horrible" to you?

Seems pretty creative and probably very well executed when the bass was made.
