It was a good story but the accents were awful. Little kid on the bus telling Forrest "you can't sit here" sounded like a down east yankee and most of the rest of the southern accents were worse.

Having read Groom's book prior to the movie being made, i get the attempts at irony and satire, but why just the southern accents in the movie? Why not make all the dialog a parody of itself?
