This is not a good sign

Actually, that was the sound of me answering a question honestly.

In reality - it doesn't sound like the thread starter is happy here - but he didn't mention moderators so I guess he escapes your adept emotional assessment. He had a criticism - I simply offered an opinion about WHY his perceived problem exsists.

My opinion - if it wasn't clear, is that the other forums could be a lot more entertaining if they weren't run like a grade school library.

I know that's your policy. Fine. But at least be honest about it and ackowledge the fact that the policy also dulls discussion. You've made the policy decision that banality is tolerable because you net civility.

Fine - just be honest and say that. Don't churn out some cliched and closed minded "love it or leave it" line when someone has the gall to point it out. Stand up for the good and the BAD effects your moderation policy creates. Take responsibility for ALL of it.

There's a lot of slack left in the moderator rope before you get to 3mb sig files. That's a straw man. But you knew that. ;)

I'm a musician - I'm a bassist. I want to communicate with other musicians and bassists. This forum certainly brings them all together - my only question - is the aggressive chaperone thing necessary?

Perhaps an adults only forum - where men can be men and musicians don't have to watch every word or thought expressed. Where we can talk like we do in the practice room - at the gig - when we're out watching other musicians play.

Or, conversely, an under-age forum (under 21)

Just a thought.

Here's a thought that ISN'T overly cliche'd:

I believe your post is a direct violation of the TB rules. IF you have a beef take it up with the mod. If you want to discuss this topic further, take it up in the Lounge. If you can't post in the lounge - get a membership.

And for once, just try thinking about WHY moderation is needed and look at it's TRUE result. We have a board here that is friendly to ALL. And, guess what? - even the advertisers think so. And if the advertisers think it works, it likely does. HC doesn't have this level of participation by posters or advertisers. And I'm sure you've participated in some very DEEP discussions over there. That's what makes TB different. Perhaps you enjoyed the old Lakland board? What? You didn't know about the Lakland board? Sorry if that was before your time. It's gone now because it fell into chaos without proper moderation. Just disappeared.

If I were Brendan, this would be the last post like that you ever made.

The thread starter implied that he is not seeing anything new in the other forums that are new and fresh. Time to take a break? Maybe. I have noticed that alot of threads (this one included,) get started and a couple of pages later it is way off the original topic and people are pissed off.

You've seen my post at many a forum before? As in non-tb forums? If so, that's cool! (although I usually go by curlydave elsewhere)

sorry, what i meant was, i've seen people post the old "the forum sucks these days, nobody brings up anything new, it isn't like it used to be" thing many times and at different forums... but hey man, every party gets boring eventually

The answer is yes. With as many testosterone-laden man/boys that cruise the forums, there needs to be someone who can reel them in. Perhaps you weren't around when the Lakland Forum succumbed to countless pointless flame wars, solely because it wasn't moderated. The Lakland Forum pre-dated TalkBass.

I believe in anarchy too, only my own special brand. My credo: "I don't need government ... but you do." There are far too many knuckleheads out there for me to want them owning guns without restriction, driving cars without a test, selling drugs on the street corner. I can behave in a civilized fashion without someone legislating the mandate for me to do that. It's just that there are millions and millions of people out there that need, even want to be told what to do.

So why don't you just quit TalkBass? Why don't you just have Paul delete your username, profile and every post you've ever made here? That would show us what kind of mindless sheep we are here. We would be mortified.

By the way, I'm speaking as the forum's only Total Hyper-Elite Member.
