I can recognize Tool by Adam, Justin, or Paul's tones alone. It can be a segment of song I don't instantly recognize, but I immediately start thinking it's got to be Tool. Other than that, it is pretty rare for the tone alone to be so distinctive. Maybe Al Cisneros in Sleep, but a lot of stoner rock has his vibe. Probably Geezer Butler if the songs themselves weren't so instantly recognizable.

I can also always recognize the singer's voice if it's someone I know (Maynard in any of his groups, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, dUg Pinnick, etc...), though I'm guessing that's probably not as impressive.

I don't think 99.999999% of people nowadays, even know what a bass guitar is.
Sad to say.
That low sound comes from a sequencer on a laptop.Doesn't it?
It's all about the Beatz.
