this looks like a Bass from Rondo...

Hey--Fearless Guitars here, coming in late to the party. Chance & I heartily thank all of you who brought this situation to our attention. What a, uh, surprise.... Who'd've thunk our website (and a customer whose photo was used) would be targeted.

Glad to see the bass community is on it! And thanks again.

FOUND IT!!

Any of these look familiar?

This guy is a serious scammer.

Page two of his "custom builds" has smoe more pics lifted right off of this page as well.

I was gonna say that the explorer-looking one and the "Rat Pack" model were ESPs. The Rat one is a Viper, they have that distinctive SG-like shape, but offset slightly like a Fender Jazz Bass, and the knobs on the explorer-looking one are in the ESP configuration.

IANAL, but I don't think that's misrepresentation. *IF* (big if) everything in his ad is true, then there's no misrepresentation. Has he lied by omission? Maybe; we don't really know. It's clearly not a stock Rondo bass, though, unless the Rondo comes with Duncans.

I swear I'm not trying to start a fight, but there's not a world of difference b/t this guy swapping pickups, adding a case and his name on the headstock, and charging more money and other builders who build basses from parts from other manufacturers. They're both "adding value"; the question is, how much value is this guy adding, and is it worth his asking price? Not bloody likely.

I agree, though if he's doing this he ought to be saying that he's doing it, not trying to make it look like he's the luthier who builds them. If I put a Fender neck on a Warmoth body, put some Darkstar pickups and an Audere in it, then I might put my name on the headstock, but my description's going to say exactly what parts were used in making it. Is this guy saying he modified a Rondo guitar?

This just went up on his site!!

"It has been brought to my attention that there is incorrect information provided on my website. However I have not been able to talk with my web tech to see. With this altercation brought to my attention, I have desided to pull selected links off my website temp. I'm sorry for the inconvenance. I will personally evaluate all of this sites contents to assure it's accuracy. I will be back up and running as soon as possible. Thanks so much.
Matthew Loren McIntosh"

Also, his links aren't working anymore....

I'd have more confidence in him if his vocabulary made sense....

Amazing thread.

I like how he claims he has a "Web Tech" for a Geocities website. Wasn't the whole selling point of Geocities that you didn't need to know anything about HTML to make a page... over 10 years ago! I think my first Geocities website in '97 was less like 1997 internet than this guys. Okay, I'm done bashing. :)

Wow, that new home page is a laugh and a half. In addition to a lawyer, he needs a secretary so his ramblings could be sorted into paragraphs with complete setence structure and correct spelling.

Unfortunately, I think that this thread is just making him feel more important. :(
