Shame they don't offer it in a fretless, with no lines.
Fender precision and Jazz bass are the most popular bass guitars. The player series are made in Mexico and are what I would call Fenders mid level line. They also have a Squire line that are their entry level offerings and then they have their American pro line that are about twice as expensive as the player line and then there is their Custom Shop stuff that runs around $3K and above. I really like the blue one you are looking at and I have a player plus 5 string so I can testify that it is a quality instrument and will serve you well.
If this one sounds and feels nice, and is within your budget, run, do not walk to the store and buy it. You will regret it of you don’t. They don’t all speak to you. The one that does is saying ‘buy me now’.

This for sure. A bass that feels good is even more important than one that sounds good and will be the one you want to play. The electronics can be upgraded any time if needed.
Even though I have too many nice basses and really should be in selling mode. I played one in a store and came really close to buying it at a higher price. I really like that finish, especially at that price level.

I totally agree. I consider a stable neck with a comfortable feel, proper fret conditioning and setup to be the most important component of a bass. Everything else consists of hardware and electronics which can be upgraded to your liking. Nothing else about the bass matters if the neck isn't right for you.

I have that same finish on an HSS Strat. A veneered top is nothing to be afraid of.
As others have mentioned, QC can vary, so buy THAT ONE if you like it.

That is a really nice looking bass, and the fact that you got to try it out, and it felt "right" to you, makes it a keeper. You could roll the dice on the cheaper, used one, but it may not feel the same to you.
There is nothing wrong with the Mexican Fenders, quality wise. They just tend to vary enough that, when you find one you like, it is more important to get that exact one. You may not find another that is the same.
To be fair, many people would give you the same advice with more expensive American-made Fender basses as well, and I would agree with them.

These Mexican Player series basses are really very beautiful, but they weigh ALOT. If that doesn’t bother you, and the sound is what you’re looking for, then its a no brainer. You can def sell it for little to no loss if it doesn’t pan out. Throw a sadowsky pedal on it between the bass and the amp and you’ll really like how it sounds.
Makes sure you check out the conditional rating (and read what those definitions mean) of the oline instrument before making a decision. Could be online bass bass some wear or bumps and bruises.
Seems to me $700 is about right. Make sure you “gift” yourself a nice gig bag or case if you don’t have one already.
This point is worth repeating. Unless the cost saving on the used one is a big deal for you, get the one that you already know feels good in your hands rather than one that looks the same.
BTW, I've been using a GK MB500 for several years now and I think it's great.
Thanks for the info. I think I’m gonna go with the MB500. A guy on this forum is selling one and looks to be in good condition. Pretty good price from what I’ve seen while looking. So I’m looking at right around $1090 including sales tax for a new bass and used GK500 head. Not too bad I guess.

I guess I’ll inspect it a little more than when I played it yesterday. I didn’t really look for anything specifically yesterday. Anything in particular I really need to make sure of besides obvious damage of any kind?
I missed the point about a “packaged deal” bass and amp, and a budget. I haven’t had my morning coffee either so apologies. Best wishes on a successful mission, but I will say there are basses for sale 24-7-365 just waiting for your check. So don’t have to worry too much about a missed deal, there is another one just around the corner.
