How many time have you tried the same kind of bass, P bass, J bass, etc and then finally gave up. For me , fretless 5 times and P bass 3 times....now mostly J bass configurations.

For me it's Steinberger. I've gone through a XM-25, a couple of XL-2's, a Synapse and a NS Design CR5. They were all decent basses but I ended up moving on for one reason or another.
This being said, I have a XL-25 slated for delivery tomorrow. I think in all of my Steinberger purchases, this is the bass that I had ultimately wanted. We'll see.

i see where they might be handy sometimes...like if you wanted to show off your hurdling skills to your girlfriend.

Everytime I play a bass with two single coils, I love it. I play it with my band, and sell it. I keep trying though. Hahahaha
You mean before you give up and buy one? 
Well all of em.... The only limitation there is the checkbook...
But if you mean give up trying to make it work and not buy one, for me that's basses without a bridge pickup. That's one reason before my tony franklin, the last time I owned a one pickup Precision bass was in my 20's, IIRC. I just couldn't grok not having a bridge PU to pluck over and my Precision went somewhere (don't remember where). Course it would be worth a lot today but... Anyway, the TF is a P/J, so I have no troubles with it.
And that's also why I've never owned a Wunkay (G&L L1000), but love the L2000....
I partially agree with JRA on the frets issue, since I'm still 100% fretless these days. But I still GAS for a fretted bass from time to time (in a lull right now) and if I were to gig at all I'd almost certainly get a fretted bass for that.

I thrice bought and then sold Kubicki Ex Factors before giving up. I love the D extender thingy, adore the various tones, and enjoy the neck profile, but for some reason I just can't get physically comfortable with the body shape. I cannot account for it.
I had to buy and sell three EBMM StingRays before I could accept that they just didn't love me.
I really wanted to love my Rickenbacker 4003, but just couldn't. I hung on to it (unplayed) for a few years thinking I might "get used to it", but it never happened. I don't think that will change the second or third time around.
As to me, there was a Fender Jaco tribute, but later i switched to Ibanez GWB1005 and turn it as forewer.

Never. I always bought the instrument after years of listening and reading reviews. That is why, my country shops don't give an oportunity to test them.

Aww, a Kubicki has been on my wishlist for awhile. I have never personally held one. I'm just curious how it felt uncomfortable to you. Did it neck dive?

With me (I build my basses) it’s pickups. Took me a couple tries to realize I just dont get along with standard (2 poles per string) humbuckers. Hum cancelling is a must, but the comb filter from the 2 pole per string ones robs the meat of the attack, and I can’t live with that.

I have a Fender Highway One Jazz Bass, it’s a pretty good, but not great Bass.
I also have a MIJ Fender Precision Bass. Again, a pretty good but not a great Bass.
They sound good, play well, look nice, and stay in tune well. They are all I need; I’m done looking.
While I do dig the look and tone of Rickenbacker Basses, they just don’t feel comfortable to me, otherwise, that would be the bass that I’d have tried and given up on.
(I also have a cache of Music Man StingRays. That’s another matter entirely. Those ARE great Basses.
