Rehearsal went well. The cab sounds real good with the Guild ThunderBass and Altec.

These are pretty cool sounding cabs-they have a quasi-old school tonality that works well for general rock music. I have this same cab, a 115, that has the Scorpion Plus in it. I actually preferred the sound of the Scorpion Plus to an older cab that was loaded with a Black Widow.

Yeah it is a great combo! I still need to take the Guild in for a full checkup/service as it's 100% original with the two prong chord and everything.

It didn't get super loud last night, but loud enough to be heard.

also one guitarist using a 60watt Fender 4x10 tube combo and the other using a 20watt 1x12 Fender tube combo.. both play loud. So I'm glad the Guild/Peavey/Altec had enough volume last night.

wow, yeah, i prefer non-guitar bands almost exclusively now. keys, drum, bass, horns or percussion. everyone plays reasonably and you don't have to crank. the guitar heavy bands are always the ones where i'm going deaf.

Regarding the recovering/regrilling thing, this is actually a '70's Peavey 215 slot port cabinet (same cosmetics as yours) that I "fenderized" to match a Dual Showman head using blonde Tolex, oxblood grillcloth and Fender hardware.

Since this picture was taken, I reconfigured the cab back to it's original vertical orientation. It sounds better to me that way.

Gorgeously done! One thing I am concerned with is the back panel on my Peavey cab is MDF.

So I'm sure how much damage pulling off the old tolex will cause.

Sometimes a little heat (like form a hair dryer) will soften the glue just enough to do the job - with really old adhesive who knows? If you do end up scraping the old material off you can use Flash Patch or something like the DAP floor leveling compounds to build those areas back up to a smooth surface.

My speaker baffle is also MDF. I might just keep the stock tolex and replace the grill cloth and new chrome corners.

I've never tried it, but if the tolex on there now is pretty well adhered to the surface, maybe you could just "wallpaper" over it???

Get a Peavey Black Widow and keep rocking. Great thing about PV BW's the replacement basket isn't very expensive. Or at least it wasn't.
