Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flat Wounds

Put a set of TI Flat 34" Scale on my Ray35... love em. Only problem is the B-string in the set is a 35" scale B-string so there's some major wrap around of the large diameter string on the B-string Tuner.

Vendor is providing me an accurate length B-string. He claims there can be some inconsistency on the lengths of the B and E strings. Everything was perfect on the set I have on my custom Regenerate bass.

Thomastik-Infeld Nickel JF365. Order the JF365's, I think they call them super longs, for your 5 string Lakland. I believe they are long enough to go through the body. I put mine through the bridge. G was a little long through the bridge. juststrings.com is a good place to buy and very fast delivery. BassString.com were about 5 days behind them. Ordered two set, one from each on the same day.

Thanks! I think I will order the bass with the JF365's

Stringsandbeyond.com is where I bought my most recent set from.

Tonight I went back and looked at the paper sleeve for my most recent set that had to long of a B-string in it. Sure enough... the B-string was marked as a 36" scale rather than 34". No fault of stringsandbeyond... the manufacturer is sending out a new B-string to me in 35" scale.

String and beyond.com have the cheapest prices on TI strings... and no shipping after $49.99

This sight does not have JF365's needed for the Lakeland 5, 35", this five string set will set you back around $70 plus shipping. If you know where I can get them cheaper please let me know. (not that I'll need them any time soon, already having a spare set)

And that's the normal price for a 5-string set. Expect more for a 6-string set. TI's are pricey... the difference between a 4-string set and 5-string set is $20, so a B-string costs ya $20. A high C should be much more affordable though. :-)

Worth every penny for the b string IMHO. Despite being HUGE, and barely fitting in the bridge, I find it to be one of the most musical and useful B strings I have used.

After reading all the posts I am still confused (may be a slow learner). Is it a good idea to use the TI super long (36 inch) flats on a Lakland 5'er with string through the body bridge? Also I am not familiar with the Lakland bridge, does one have to string through the body with their bridge?

Thanks

Lakland is both string through body or bridge. With the Superlong TI Jazz Flats I go through body. The "speaking length" of the G string wraps maybe a quarter-turn around the post because the 3+2 headstock puts the G closer than it would be on other basses. I don't know if regular long scale TIs will work through the bridge since it's still 35" from bridge to nut.

With Chromes, I also go through body and the silk on the B string just barely clears the nut. Lakland JO Flats come with a warning not to string through body, so I don't.

I'm sitting here looking at my 5502 with the Thomastik-Infeld Nickel JF365's. They are strung through the bridge not the body. I have about 1 full wrap on the G. If just the G was through the body I don't think there would be any. But then Carl from Lakland told me not to run flats through the body. He was not aware I was going to purchase the TI's. He may have a different opinion on TI's through the body. Cheers

I just ordered the new Skyline Bob Glaub P5 and will have them put the TI365s on them at the factory prior to shipment. Looking forward to the tone!

I have TI Jazz Flats on my Pedulla T-Bolt fretless 5. I love 'em. The tone is bright for flats, and they are very slinky ... moreso than most of the roundwounds I use. Compared to the Lakland Osborn flats on my Lakland fretless, they're brighter and slinkier. Bright and slinky ... yeah, that's what they are. That B string, though, it's a big honkin' .136. You'd think it'd be as stiff as a hunk of #3 re-bar, but nope ... it's slinky too. OK, that's all.
I'm still thinking (about the price)
Ive read quite a few poss on these. Most all say theyre the best sounding flats around but some dont like the very low tension. They are bright when new but after a few weeks settle into a more tradtional flat sound. Most also agree they keep getting better with age.Theyre expensive but worth it.Ill be geting a set soon from Steve(Dude)Barr. He has good prices on them and is a real nice guy.If you decide to try them id suggest you give him a call at(707)546-DUDE or try his website vintagebastradingco.com.Good luck!
How much are they ?

I just tried out my Reverend bass with the TI Jazz Flats through my rig last night, and it sounds killer! Those strings are so easy to play.. especially that .56 D and .70 A! The bass sits real well in the mix with these strings.. it doesn't have as much presence, but not in a bad way. A little of that top-end harshness is gone. Dig it!
2016 do you still use these TI strings or are there new brand names better than these strings ?
