Thomastik-Infeld strings for 35" scale five-string

You've got the Jazz Flats on your 55-02? You're the guy I need to talk to about this. My bass is an Ibanez BTB555 which has similar electronics to your 55-02 (though not as good, of course). How do the JF's work for you on the 55-02, and what is the B-string like?ElBajista said:

Seriously, though, These TI flats have this punchy and warm tone that is super-articulate on every note. Even the high fret on the D and G strings, which I always find rather weak and thin sounding, have this monsterous authority and super-punchy tone. With the added versatility of the electronics and the correct pickup selection, I can out-P a P bass and out-J a J bass.
I test the B string on basses by trying to see if I can accurately hear the change in pitch staring at E on the B (5th fret) and moving down each individual fret. The TIs sound absolutely MASSIVE without losing pitch clarity and without being muddy. As you can see, I can't speak high enough of them.
I'm itching to fix the electronics in my SX that way I can have that as my "slapping" bass and string the 55-02 with TIs again!
How long did you use them? Mine are still pretty brand new, and I'm wondering what your thoughts are on how they age. Not that I need it, since I love my strings nice and aged anyways!

This sounds really good! I prefer the feel of flatwounds to the feel of rounds, but I'm good with the Elixir's that are on my bass right now. I do have a birthday coming up, and I might ask for a set of TI flats to put on it. What is the model number of those strings?ElBajista said:Well, I did. I've had TI Jazz Flats on three 35" scale basses.
Lakland 55-01, Ibanez BTB1005 Fretless, Peavey Millennium 5+
JF-345 through the bridge

JF-365 through the body, they don't recomend this, but I haven't had any problem.
Great strings, soft feel, they sit really good "in the mix".

Thanks for the soundclips! They sound good, but I'm realizing that it's not really the sound I'm looking for. That would get lost in the mix at my church.billbern said:

I've got an Ibanez BTB555, and I really like the preamp. The mids are a concentric pot with boost/cut and mid frequency control.Bassist4Life said:
I find that the mid punch of the TI flats usually cuts thru mixes quite well. I think my Jazz bass cuts better with TI flats than it did with round wounds.

), a grand piano, and a mic-ed acoustic guitar without cranking my volume. Of course, I could just turn my B100R up until I overpower everyone, but then they'd crucify me. 
The TIs have a super-sweet midrange thing going on, and I never had to worry about getting lost in the mix with the preamp set flat. Even the open B was articulate and sat perfectly in the mix.
The thing I love about the TIs is that they sat perfectly in the mix without overpowering anything. My dad remarked that he could hear all three instruments perfectly, without one being louder than the other. I truly believe that TIs are the perfect string.
Darn this thread, now I want to restring the 55-02. I need to fix up my SX so I can have my "slapping 4 string" and my "super mega fingerstyle 5 string"
