A recent thread got me thinking about the kinds of food we might eat at rehearsals.

I am the "host" of our rehearsals, meaning they are held at my home.

I usually whip up some fresh guacamole and put out some quinoa chips.

My wife (bless her) shows up about an hour into rehearsal with buffalo chicken dip and pita chips and celery for dipping.

Our female singer runs a bakery out of her house, making cakes for weddings or cookies for baby showers and whatnot. She usually shows up with a couple of plates of amazing cake slices or cookies.

I provide some domestic beers, and those who are more picky BYOB. Gatorade and waters are in my jam room fridge too.

Weather permitting, we have actually grilled some burgers before we jam.

So we do pretty well.

But I'm looking to mix it up a bit. Plus I'm on a major health kick. I would love some ideas. But don't worry about sticking to healthy stuff. I cheat pretty frequently.

Share your favorite rehearsal snacks, or snack ideas.

I actually enjoy munching between songs. We get a lot of work done. But we're also great friends so the social aspect is important to me. Nothing is more social than food. :D

(I'll try to get pics of the jam food next time we get together.)

Ha! Setting up the poll made me realize that I have to work carrots into our snack menu!!!

I also host rehearsals. There is always heated dip in a small crock pot: 1 cup cooked and drained sausage, a block of cream cheese, a can of Rotel. Or... a large can of chicken breast rinsed and drained, a block of cream cheese, a cup of ranch, half a cup of Franks Red Hot, once it's hot, put cheddar cheese on top. Some other variations also, all served with tortilla chips. There are usually salted-in-shell peanuts on hand, sometimes someone will pick up a pizza on their way. We'll hit a half dozen tunes, take a break and eat and talk maybe about what new tunes to do, listen to a proposal or two, maybe print some charts, get back to work. The social part is important to the process at chez-Humbled as well.

That dip sounds ridiculously good.

Wow, you guys are considerably more hospitable than I by a long ways. I host rehearsals and the band just helps themselves to whatever's in the fridge. Usually looks like so:

On cold or celebratory nights we get into the quality stuff:

...but it looks like I'm going to have to up my food game!

We sometimes will break bread together at rehearsals, just depends on the time we have. On our last big rehearsal leading up to our previous gig, I (summer host) made pot of chili for the boys and we took a solid meal break in the middle of the rehearsal. At our other spot the drummer (winter host) will occasionally put together something, sometimes a pot luck sometimes pizza. It typically depends on how much time around the rehearsal time we have to spare.

We've done something similar, except mrs. and I call it our annual holiday open house party.

One of my bands rehearse at the band leaders apartment, he's usually got wine or sake or beers or gin on hand, and usually just puts out some charcuterie and bread and simple dips and chips. Sometimes none at all- never really expect it but it's a nice hang to have a drink in-between running and working on things.

Otherwise we always rent studios and depending on the gig someone will bring a flask or a 6 pack and maybe if I am starving I will bring pretzels.

I say get fancy and lay out a meat & cheese board!

Nope, rehearsal is just that. Rehearsal. Get yer fill and swill done beforehand or afterwards because we are here to work.

Then again, very few of the bands I've been with have rehearsed at home. A lot of people use hourly rooms here in SD so a doing anything else is just a waste of time and money.

We rent a rehearsal space, sometimes we will meet up beforehand for dinner. Usually no food in the room. It's an old Ryerson Steel building that has been converted to house bands and artists and a couple of small businesses. We try to keep food out of the room so we don't get mice. They have been spotted very rarely in other parts of the building. Everyone brings their own brand of beer. I drink mainly Guinness and try craft beers occasionally and would go broke bringing that stuff for everyone. We also take turns buying a bottle of Jim Beam.

These are a few of my favorite things...

Yum! Lagavulin 16, yes!!!

May I please join your band? With beverages like the above I have a hunch we could make the make the two bass thing work! :)

Our band has always been in the bourbon + beer mode. We've never taken the leap to single malt Scotch, mostly because as a six piece we plow through the whiskey at a rapid rate, so it's just too expensive. Rehearsals usually start around 8, so food is usually peanuts or bar snacks and that's it.
