My pianist hosts, god bless that man.

He usually picks up gyros or pizza for the lot of us, however last time (during a recording session) he busted out the big guns and made some delicious chili. Sometimes our drummers picks up cheese steaks. Rehearsal food is of utmost importance.

Food and music gear, particularly finger food, do not mix in my religion.

Also alcohol makes me clumsy. No matter how many beers I could drink and still function, the first one always made my fingers strip over themselves.

So I'm firmly on no drinks or food at rehearsal. I'm there to practice the music with the band and GTFO. If you want drinks/food, after all the amps are turned off and the instruments put away, cool, but not before.

A recent thread got me thinking about the kinds of food we might eat at rehearsals.

I am the "host" of our rehearsals, meaning they are held at my home.

I usually whip up some fresh guacamole and put out some quinoa chips.

My wife (bless her) shows up about an hour into rehearsal with buffalo chicken dip and pita chips and celery for dipping.

Our female singer runs a bakery out of her house, making cakes for weddings or cookies for baby showers and whatnot. She usually shows up with a couple of plates of amazing cake slices or cookies.

I provide some domestic beers, and those who are more picky BYOB. Gatorade and waters are in my jam room fridge too.

Weather permitting, we have actually grilled some burgers before we jam.

So we do pretty well.

But I'm looking to mix it up a bit. Plus I'm on a major health kick. I would love some ideas. But don't worry about sticking to healthy stuff. I cheat pretty frequently.

Share your favorite rehearsal snacks, or snack ideas.

I actually enjoy munching between songs. We get a lot of work done. But we're also great friends so the social aspect is important to me. Nothing is more social than food. :D

(I'll try to get pics of the jam food next time we get together.)

Ha! Setting up the poll made me realize that I have to work carrots into our snack menu!!!
can i come to your rehearsal's  i'm like'ing the sound of this :hyper:

I host our rehearsals. We have liquid libations of various sorts, brought by anyone and everyone. Food is rare, it only happens when we have a lot of work to do and we're going for a long time. A few weeks ago I ordered pizza because we had back to back vocal rehearsal, sub-drummer rehearsal, then regular drummer rehearsal (two different shows coming up). Scheduled from 4PM to 9PM so I ordered pizza at 6, which was when the drummer switch was to occur, so they both could eat. But that's super rare. We're there to work.

We rehearse almost exclusively Sunday morning (usually 9am to 1pm) at our drummer's house, and in the break, he is kind enough to provide us with coffee an a light snack (usually muffins, banana bread, or other morning-friendly food, always home made). We don't rehearse often, though, only when we want to add new songs to our repertoire, as we gig pretty often.

When I was being auditioned / recruited for my current band there a home made pasta dish we ate during the break. It was very good, and I was impressed with the hospitality but really didn't affect my decision to join the band.

There is always food at rehearsal that we indulge in during the break. Always chips, dips, cheese and crackers, olive tray and some kind of homemade hot dish or Italian hero - sausage or meatball or chicken cutlet, and always some sort of pastry, brownie or cannolli for desert. One time there was a full roasted turkey. That was really good.

There are mixers provided and people tend to bring their own alcohol. I usually have one drink after break and we usually unwind when done with a round of shots.

We rehearse kind of early on a weekday evening and not everyone has time to grab dinner beforehand so the food is appreciated.

I love this band :bassist:

I wouldn't care how good the band was or if they ever gigged. I'd be in.

I bought my house just to host rehearsals and am happy to put out snacks and the bar whenever the band is together. My wife or me will usually crockpot something since we’re feeding the family anyway; cooking for ten is as easy as four.

Rehearsals are long and intense, so providing a little food at break keeps people on target. They’re often driving an hour or more; hosting gets me home sooner and I view it as my penance for not having to drive. We’ve all spent enough times in bands working out of industrial space with poor conditions that it’s nice to have a bathroom and carpet.

It’s a positive thing for my kids too to hang around eating and watch a working band.

the symphony I play with rotates who brings "snacks" for our breaks.

I'm not into having food during rehearsal... I really like to get work done as quickly and efficiently as possible... not there to "hang," even if it is with people who are friends of mine.

When time permits, going for a bite after is always fun, though.

Hospitality is a well established tradition in my family. Aunts and uncles, my sisters, and my cousins all adhere to my grandmother’s philosophy: If you’re allowed through our front door, you’re a guest and treated accordingly.

If I’m hosting there’s bottled water, soft drinks, tea and coffee available throughout. After rehearsal there’s food (we have a good pizzeria nearby that delivers), beer, cider (in season), and sometimes wine for anybody who wants to hang around. (However, I’m not above providing a sandwich or similar up front for someone who's coming straight from work.) I prefer rehearsals to start fairly early (around 7:00) and go till were done or we hit three hours max. So we’re finished by 10:00 at the latest. Most times the band is good for grabbing a bite before they split.

Most bands I have been in, is BYOF, BYOB, BYOW

But the current guys I am jamming with have alcohol thing, so there is plenty of that, and I can't drink anymore :(. The host's wife bought Mc Donalds cheeseburgers last time. I make a point to eat before I go

Having said that, yeah, it would be awesome to be a little more coordinated with food sometimes, because I am usually going home to let the dogs out, and running to practice. So fast food or quick snack at home before I leave. So a dinner where we all pitched in with something would be awesome.

damn i wish i rehearsed with you guys!
we rent a practice space; none of us have houses big enough to store our gear. we have a small beer fridgebut we've basically stopped drinking at practice; we just werent maximizing our time. maybe one or two if there are some left in the fridge. I also schedule practice late enough that I can eat with my family before I head over.
